I used these self watering stakes on all of my houseplants and some yard plants while on vacation for 8 hot summer days. All plants survived. Yay! I still keep these stakes on my sensitive plants. I’ve learned that they do better watering themselves over when I think that they need water.

Super Dinger! Bin sehr zufrieden

Have used these with many plants and recommended to friends. Love them! Easy to use. Have saved many water-demanding plants by using them continually. Highly recommend while away from home.

This is a useful product, but the marketing overreaches. The two parts that are not accurate are "waters only when needed" and "use on vacation." Not true (unless the company means a 2-day vacation). Think of this as a continuous, slow drip irrigation system. The water keeps oozing out; it never stops. If the container is large and you put too much water in it, relative to the size of the pot (and the ability of the potting soil to absorb the water), it will simply drain out the bottom. So, if you have a large pot, you can use a large bottle; if you have a small pot, you can only use about a third of a small bottle. Also, the bigger the bottle, and the more water it contains, the greater the pressure and the faster the water comes out. Nevertheless, this is still a useful product and I would recommend it. When you water a pot with, say, a pitcher of water, much of the water can go around the sides and out the bottom. With the blumat spikes, the water comes out slowly and all of it can be absorbed by the potting soil. So, the blumat spike makes watering much easier. Simply add water to the container and it will ooze out over about 2 days.

Update: I left this in my plant when I went on vacation for 3 weeks. When I came home there was a mess. The water (as I predicted) went straight through the plant so quickly it didn’t have a chance to absorb and it went directly into a bowl/stand, and on to the floors.Original Review: I use a syphon watering system for my plants. It’s in the soil all the time.I’m going away for 3 weeks and I want to be sure they get enough water. The syphon system works well, below the earth, but I have to add water to the top soil because it is usually dry. I won’t be around to do that.I tried one small plant. The bottle leaked and ran through the plant until it was empty. The bottle had an environmental cap and I might not have pushed the green end fully into the top. Second time I got it in very far and tight. It still ran through the water.I did a larger plant with a soda bottle. It used up at least an inch of water each day. I calculate it’s not going to last more than a week. The problem is that it constantly seeps water into the plant. I thought the clay tip is supposed to sense how much water the plant needs and allow seepage accordingly. It doesn’t do that! The syphon is a much better system.I have to keep them right now. I’ll see in 3 weeks.* I write reviews to let you know how this product was for me, and to aid you in your decision to buy or not buy.

Consigliatissimo!

First off, these are well made and arrived intact (unlike the terra cotta ones we ordered). I tried using them with a 2-liter bottle but it kept tipping over in the hanging baskets. I wound up using a 16.9 oz bottle and even with the plant fully moist, the water drew down in about 18 hours. Not a good solution for a week away on vacation. Might last longer on an indoor plant, or perhaps even an outdoor, fully stationary plant (hanging baskets can move), but not a good solution for me. Wound up buying a drip irrigation system on Amazon for about 20 bucks and hooking it up to an old water timer. Also, just an FYI, these do not screw on to bottles as indicated in the description. They use a tapered neck that inserts inside the top of the bottle. You also don't cut off the bottom of the bottle as in the description. I used a thumbtack to poke a small hole. Even with a small hole, it drained out way too quickly. Peace.
