My brother wanted to get into playing guitar so I found one for him that was in pretty good shape, but needed a little TLC. The biggest problem was the volume pot on the guitar just spun and spun. I pulled it out and went to Amazon and found the Bourns 500K Guitar & Amp Potentiometer. It was a perfect fit, cost next to nothing and now my brother has a fully functioning guitar that he can learn on -- without having to borrow one of mine! Highly recommended.

I bought this for a guitar I was building, thinking it would be a higher quality alternative to the cheap dime-size pots that you see in a lot of guitars. Boy was I wrong. Yes, it's full size, but that is all it has going for it. Firstly, It didn't work. My instrument has a Humbucker, so an actual 500K pot is enough resistance to cut it out completely. 500k for a humbucker is standard. The one I received, however, while it said 500k on the unit itself, could only cut half the volume out of the instrument, rendering it essentially useless for my purposes. On top of this, instead of having some resistance to the turn as a high quality potentiometer would, it spun all but freely, making fine control difficult, and making it feel extremely cheap. As for instalation, the threaded shaft is much wider than a standard shaft, which, to be fair, they did mention. But the real problem was that it was so long that when I put a typical plastic Strat-style knob on it, the knob floated half a centimeter off the pick guard. Would not recommend. Either buy a real CTS or Seymour Duncan potentiometer, or just buy the cheap dime size ones. Never had trouble with those.

These are GREAT pots. I build and modify my own guitars, have a lot of experience with different potentiometers from various manufactures and the Bourns pots are the best I have ever used for the price. There are some higher end pots but very expensive and not cost effective considering law of diminishing returns. These feature a super smooth action, perfect for volume swells and pinkie control when playing. If you are looking for the best pots for your build or refurb, this is it. Go. Buy. Now.

So far, it seems to be a better quality pot, than the apparent bottom of the line CTS pot it replaced. It only lasted a year, before the surface degraded, causing the 'Scratchy noise' when adjusting volume on my guitar... Hopefully, the Bourns will last a good bit longer...

Buying these to support the little people instead of the big names. They're just as great and inexpensive for some who are on a budget. Super smooth turning and great for volume swelling. The only thing about upgrading to a quality pot is making you're original pot holes on your guitar a bit larger. So keep that in mind! Already got a pair of these in my Jackson, they sure do get the job done and can carry their own weight to be well respected

Smooth & quiet, works great with an exception of one pot(of 3). The one I used for the Volume won't turn all the way off (mfgr flaw?). Otherwise, I'd give 5 stars
