Ridiculously complicated to assemble! About 1000 parts! Took my son hours to complete.

This is not fine furniture. It's made of composite wood, not real wood. But it is heavy, and it looks nice when assembled. It was difficult to assemble. The entire cabinet was shipped in pieces and has to be fully assembled. Thank goodness for my maintenance man husband or I would have been days putting it together. Between the two of us, it took about four hours. He also put some wood glue on it to secure the bottoms of the drawers to the sides. I got it to match a similar bookcase I bought at Costco and it was a good finish match. Neither one was real wood. There were two issues I had. First, there were NO ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS in the package when it arrived. I attempted to request it by contacting the seller, but it was the weekend and that whole process wasn't happening very quickly. However, I found the manufacturer's web site on a paper that was in the package, and was able to download the instructions from there. The other issue I has was that the box had been dropped on one corner during handling, which marred the back corner of the top piece. It was very small and because I needed to use the cabinet and get it assembled, I opted to accept it "as is." Since the damage was to the very back corner, about a 1/4" piece of veneer missing, it wasn't critical.

I liked how it looked before buying but it was very hard to assemble. It should be mention in the description.

I purchased this item even after reading other reviews saying it took 4 + hours to assemble. I'm so glad I did! My grandson-in-law was so kind to put it together for me and it took him about an hour and half to complete. It is a beautiful addition to my office and I have received many compliments. It is well made and very sturdy. The drawers operate smoothly. It is very heavy so I recommend using easy sliders under it for easy moving.

Ditto's on the Fed Ex delivery guy as my new hero, this package was HEAVY! And for good reason- this is built like a tank. It has two external "walls" and two internal "walls". The slides for the drawers mount on the internal walls, and the cumulative effect is a solid cabinet that will never, ever flex- the drawers will move very easily for the life of the unit.I have put these units together for years, and I have not seen such quality as this one. The particle board showed no signs of micro-crumbling around the machined areas (indicating poor-quality material). The pieces were cut EXACTLY the right sizes (when assembled, there were NO gaps or overhangs), and the most crucial part, the holes were in the exact right spots. When attaching the drawer slides, I looked at each hole in the particle board- the holes were centered DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE of the hole on the rail! Every. Single. Hole. PERFECT.The directions booklet is 40 pages, instructions were 27 pages long. The drawings were hyper-accurate, you could tell the orientation of each piece just by looking at the hole patterns. If you have ever used hand tools for more than half an hour in your entire life, this will be a breeze for you. Some reviewers have complained about the "difficulty" of assembly. Well, if you're the typical Go-To-Girl, then Go-To Ikea. This file cabinet ain't no Ikea-level project, okay? If you want to build a beautiful, rock-solid piece of furniture, it's gonna take more than a glass of wine and an hour of your time. To buy a unit like this unit assembled, could cost two or three times as much.To sum up; 1.) It's heavy. 2.) It's expensive. 3.) It takes four hours to build. 4.) Instructions are precise. 5.) Swedish translator not required. 6.) TOTALLY WORTH IT. If I ever need a second one, I will definitely buy again (since the first one will probably out-live me).

This was an enormous disappointment. When the file cabinet arrived, it required assembly. No problem, I'm the "Go-To-Girl" for assembly of furniture when I go to Florida where most of my neighbors are elderly. However, when I unwrapped this, the package had been dropped and there was an small gouge in the "skirt" and the front corner of the top was completely scraped off. i complained and they sent me a replacement for both parts, very quickly. The good news -- the "skirt" was perfect. The bad news -- The top had parts scraped off on both edges. At this point, I'm not going to try to get another replacement. I'm going to sand the edge as smooth as I can get it, and I'm going to color the wood with magic markers. But I'll never order from this company again, since they can't manage to pack their products properly for shipment.

The decision to buy this particular product was quite difficult because there are so many competing Lateral Files with a huge range of prices. I was very pleased that I decided to go with this one even though it was a bit more expensive than some others that looked similar. It turned out to be a sturdy, quite handsome piece of furniture, with some decorative touches that made it much more attractive than the cheaper plain box types. The finish actually is a bit darker than that of the online pictures, more of a dark mahogany, than a brown cherry, in my opinion...looks great, however, with my lighter, more cherry desk. The unit arrived in very good condition; was well packaged; and only had a few dings and those were on pieces that ultimately ended up on the interior. The delivery package was quite heavy. I was pleased that the FedEx guy brought the box into my home and carted it all the way to the room in which I planned to build it and use it. Assembly, though time consuming (3-4 hours), was straight forward and relatively easy even for one person. Instructions were very well done, complete, and easy to comprehend. The finished product works very well. Drawers are very strong and move smoothly. Hanging files fit nicely; the mechanism that allows only one open drawer at a time works very well. As it turned out, I was glad that I paid a bit more for a superior product.
