Rubus `Baby cakes` thorn less blackb PPAF

baby cakes is a dwarf, thornless Blackberry perfect for container gardening with its compact habit. Spring & early summer bring bright white flowers. In summer, large, sweet berries present on top of the plant in a fireworks-like spray of fruit. The plant has a somewhat round shape with upright growth reaching 3-4' In height. In most regions, this Blackberry will produce twice with a mid-summer floricane crop & a mid-fall primocane crop. The later crop is sometimes inhibited by high summer temperatures so gardeners in areas with HOT summers may need to rely primarily on the floricane fruit.

grow tips

perform best in a fairly neutral soil with a pH of 6.5 – 7.5 this soil & location should also be well-drained & in full sun. If your summers are extremely hot, Baby cakes™ will perform best in some afternoon shade to protect it from too much heat. All of The varieties in the brazelberries® collection will thrive in patio pots, edible gardens or in the ground for years to come. We recommend a large pot as big as 24 to 36"up to a half-whiskey barrel. Remember, this is a cane berry that will continue to grow shoots which will eventually fill the pot. - brazelberries®

I ordered a black berry plant. I have been looking forward to this plants arrival. I was expecting it to be full of leaves and when it arrived, it’s just a couple sticks in the dirt. Very disappointed. We are in April so I expected it to at least have leaves by now. I don't expect much from this and will be returning.

Plant came packaged very well. I ordered in Feb so I knew it was going to be dormant. I did a scratch test at the base of the plant and saw green under the “bark” so I knew it was alive just in dormancy. It’s been a month and already budding new leafs

I wanted to wait a few weeks to see how this plant would fare once I planted it. It arrived pretty quickly, and looked good when it arrived. There were even a few berries on it. I planted it in a big planter outside and it is doing really well. The birds have eaten every berry on it but it is growing and flowering. It also came with a lot of tomato plants. They started popping up after a few days and I think I have enough tomato plants to feed an army. I would guess about a dozen and more coming up every day. Not sure if you view that as a plus or a minus. I am growing both.

I ordered two of these for my back deck container garden, not knowing what to expect. I was disappointed that amazon quoted me a delivery date of next Monday, but to my surprise, the berry bushes arrived today, Friday! Both plants are very healthy and for their size, loaded with flowers and immature fruits. I am so thrilled with the quality of these plants that I may order more!

the plant arrived earlier than expected, it was well packaged. It had a few buds which are now flowering, I haven't planted it outside yet because of the possible frost warnings we have been having lately. I did remove it from the pot it came in and placed in a slightly larger pot until I can plant it outside. I am looking forward to the blackberries, that it will produce this summer.

The plant arrived in one day and was shipped from CT to MA. It was in very good condition. There were a small number of broken branches but likely no worse than if you were taking it home from the garden center and has a small mistake when putting it in the care. The photo of it in the box is the day it arrived and the photo of it outside the box the next day was transplanted outside. There are already buds on it that will likely turn into black berries.
