This butane torch is my first foray into culinary torches, and I must say I'm quite impressed with its performance and design, especially considering its excellent value. I was surprised by how powerful it is, providing a strong and easily adjustable flame that seems perfect for tasks like creating a crisp sugar crust on crème brûlée. The torch is straightforward to refill using a standard butane canister, which is a practical feature for long-term use. The inclusion of a safety lock is also a thoughtful addition, providing peace of mind during and after use.The base of the torch is designed to be sufficiently large and stable, allowing it to stand upright on the countertop while in use, which is convenient. My only minor suggestion for improvement would be the addition of a fill level indicator. It would be helpful to have a visual guide to know how much butane to add during refills, preventing overfilling or running out unexpectedly. However, this small point aside, the torch is of good quality, performs its intended function very well, and offers great value for the price. I would definitely recommend it to both novice and experienced home cooks.

The torch was (to me) surprisingly large and solid. Yes, it's plastic, but it's well made and heavy (in a pleasant way) in the hand. And the flame is LIKE THE BREATH OF A DEMON FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL sorry for the caps but the first time I lit it, the adjustment was turned all the way open, and it shocked me a bit. Anyway, the point is that the flame is more than adequate for whatever you might need short of sweating copper for plumbing repairs. The adjustment (a dial on the back) is nice, smooth, and takes the flame through a wide range (including completely off, which is nice, because there's no child safety mechanism). The internal tank is sizable -- it seemed like it swallowed nearly a full butane refill canister on the first fill (note that it comes empty) -- and the trigger mechanism is like any other butane torch: not satisfying in any way, but fine.

It's big! Bigger than I assumed from looking at the photos. Comes in a easy-open blister pack. It's easy to fill and stands on its base very well. Looks kind of intimidating for kitchen use, but it's simple to operate and the flame is clean and long. It's pretty much 100% plastic however, and I don't have the confidence in it surviving a drop on the kitchen floor. If I end up ever needing another one I think I'd look for a smaller and cheaper model. But if you need a serious butane torch it's not a bad option.

I took a review star away because of build quality and a lack of any means of determining butane level in the reservoir. The instruction to fill until excess spills out does not inspire confidence.I do like the lack of an interlock between the trigger and its locking mechanism (the lock is switch form). This makes it easy to use in one hand. I also like the base extension for stability. It provides a nicely formed and abundant flame, and a rotating knob makes the flame amount easy to change.

So far, this torch has impressed me. It's light weight and easy to fill. The tank holds a decent amount, which is nice since the size of the flame means it will run through more quickly. There is no safety on it, so it's easy to turn the torch on and adjust the flame. This is nice if you have weak hands or nails as you're not having to fiddle with any like switches or pulling two things down simultaneously, etc.The flame is nice and tight. The inner blue cone comes to a sharp point and it really focuses the heat. There's no weird orange fluttering to the flame. The best part about this so far is the price. This torch is a great value for the money, as long as it doesn't have to be replaced quickly. I teach metalsmithing and I have torches that have been in use for 5+ years, and while this one probably won't make it that long, it seems to be built much better than the ones from the bargain hardware stores.

My old torch died many years ago and I've been putting off buying a new one. I'm glad I waited because this one is so much better than my old one. I love the flame adjuster design. I can set it to a small flame for light work like heat shrink tubing of a large flame for heating nuts and bolts. And even the highest setting has an inherently "soft" flame so it won't blow away small items that you're trying to heat. The igniter works consistently and the whole unit is lightweight and easy to hold. I'm even using this to ignite my oxy-acetylene torch because it's easier than using a spark igniter.Fair warning, the unit doesn't come filled (shipping hazard) so you'll need to procure a can of butane before you can use it. I already had some on hand but it's easy to find in most areas.
