Very well made and sturdy too. Quality welds and finish. Bought two of these for my trailer. Very easy install, works excellent.

Sturdy product and nice thick black coating, however as others have noted, it may require modification. It would not slip into my stake pocket initially because the welded in bottom plate with the bolt hole in it was wider than the rest of the rectangular shaft and would not allow unit to slide into stake pocket until I took my grinder to it to make it same width as rest of bottom rectangular shaft. Shaft also protruded below bottom of my stake pocket so I had to trim it on my metal band saw in order for the bottom plate to tighten up against the bottom of the stake pocket. Lastly, would rather the stand-off not put the wheel so far from the side of my trailer. The spare sticks out about 1-2 inches wider than my fender width.

Bought to mount 16" trailer spare to new trailer. Bolt pattern is 8 lug × 6.5". After reading prior reviews and mocking things up I found that placing (3) 5/8 washers between the large studs and the backer plate before hammering the studs into the bracket allowed for two things to occur. First, the nut would not bottom out on the stud shoulder before the spare was secured tightly and secondly I was still able to "set" the stud into the bracket. Once I hammered the studs in I realized that the studs were a hair wider than the spare which wouldn't allow me to mount the spare. I simply threaded the nuts onto the studs and wacked each nut with a 5lb sledge. This "massage" was just the ticket and the spare is now securely mounted to the bracket. Now to mount to the trailer and see if any work with the massager is needed on that end.

If you want to spend your evenings fixing other peoples lousy engineering flaws, buy this piece of garbage. Diameter of the holes isn't even close to the diameter of the press fit bolts. Had to spend my time grinding, and filing the holes for them to fit. I finally said screw it, and made the holes large enough for me to slide the bolts through, and then I welded the bolts, AFTER I put thick washers both sides of the bracket to fill up the space where the overly long threads in the bolts protrude through the mount. Who designed this POS? A little thought might have been good. As it is I spent an hour out of my life fixing someone else's flaw. Now I have to paint this thing to try and make it look like I didn't have to fix it. What a piece of junk.

I knew from reviews that some have had problems installing this. I have an Aluma aluminum trailer. A standard 2x4 slips through the trailer's aluminum bracket that I will use to mount this spare tire holder. From the reviews I thought all I would need to do would be remove some of the powder coating. I had to remove all of the powder coating where this slides into the aluminum trailer bracket. To actually get this mount to fit I used my disk hrinder to remove about 1/32 of the medal where I removed the powder coating. This mount extended at least 1/8 inch beyond the bottom of the aluminium trailer bracket. I needed to remove that 1/8 inch to get the bracket that bolts to the bottom of the spare tire mount so that bracket would securely hold the spare tire mount in the aluminium bracket.Just a quick inspection it appears I will also have to modify the mount to get my 5x4.5 spare tire rim to fit. It's a lot of work but this mount is so much better and is the same price for the u-bolt spare tire mount Aluma sells for this trailer.Update: No problem installing the wheel studs. In the photo with the wheel studs showing, that is the 5 bolt 4.5 inch spacing.

I bought the spare tire carrier for my husband's car trailer. I measured the stake pocket twice and ordered once 🤔😉 I didn't notice that the pocket wasn't a perfect rectangle the pocket is 1/4" smaller in the front, so it actually measures 3 1/4 front and 3 1/2 in the back.5 stars for sturdiness4 stars because it didn't fit for us, not the products fault our trailer wasn't constructed correctly.4 stars for lock only because we couldn't lock it in and again it wasn't the product it is our trailer's manufacturer. This item is very well built and would work perfectly. Wish they made one at 3 1/4", I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Very easy to install, tie down bolt not used because mount base was too long. I just drilled two 1/4" holes through the side mount and stake holder and attached with two 1/4" x 1" bolts and nylocks. Offset is perfect for tire to miss my top side rail.
