Intended use: Use a mid-2011 iMac in Target Display Mode as an occadional external monitor for my Thinkpad via the docking port.My setup: Lenovo Thinkpad connecting to external monitors through a Lenovo Thunderbolt docking station which has two full-size Displayport ports (DPs).Issue: Only iMacs made in late 2010 through c. 2012 will work as external monitors for a PC without installing Win 10 on the iMac (which I don't want to do). The mid-2011 iMac has a Mini-Displayport port (MDP) and the accepted technique for driving the iMac with Target Display Mode is to run a MDP to MDP cable from the iMac to an MDP port on the PC. My existing cable has a male MD connector on both ends. So I needed an adapter with a female MD port on one end and a male DP connector on the other. This adapter fits that description.Problem: The connection worked for about 10 minutes. Then there was an alarming SPROING noise and the iMac went dark.Solution: I purchased a different adapter which cost $3 more and the setup works perfectly. Here's the name of the one that works: "Cable Matters DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Adapter (DP to Mini DP) - 6 Inches"

It took a long while to get this order and it was worth the wait. Very high quality and real compact having no wires. Just plug this in the computer and plug the display into it and you are good to go.

This little connector is exactly what I needed in order to connect my Apple Cinema Display to the Nvidia GTX 680 video controller replacement for the original Radeon 5770 in my Mid-2010 Mac Pro in order to upgrade to OS X Mojave.

Does not work on MAC as advertised. Connected between my MAC and Apple Cinema Display and Display goes off. Take this cable out and display comes back on. Tried many times, it does not work.
