This product broke the first time I used it. The filter cutting wheel was unable to puncture a filter. The bearings bend the filter and cause it to get stuck. Also the handle is attached using threaded rod. This means it starts disassembling itself the second you try to loosen the tool. This happens with your filter still in it. For those who encounter this, I took an adjustable wrench to the nut just above the handle to loosen it. This process also spilled oil everywhere, though that isn't the tools fault.Do not buy this. Try to find something of higher quality.

Gets the job done, chrome plated hardware turns nicely and doesn't bind. I use it to inspect the oil filter after changes. Only way to cyeball the filter paper for problems. Handles most filters found on passenger and light trucks. I don't think it's big enough for big riggs or construction equipment

It's a good cutter overall! It's not the most sophisticated setup ever, but it has a nice sharp cutting wheels and two bearings to smoothly roll the filter on. Every component is robust except for the screw, which is quite long and somewhat thin. It is a weak point in it's construction but I feel it is acceptable considering the low price. Other than a drain plug with magnet, this is the next best thing to help diagnose the health of your engine. Probably better considering the volume of aluminum (non-ferrous) materials in modern engines. Inspecting your filter doesn't take long -maybe a few minutes, and it will give you peace of mind, or knowledge of an issue that should be addressed. The quality is good enough for the average DIYer. The full time mechanic will probably want something a little more durable. It's a good product at a great price. I feel 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 is a fair assessment.
