I'm sure the pump would have been fine but apparently the rebuilders are consolidating and deleting some pumps... and expecting vehicle owners to adapt pumps to fit what they never were used on before.I did find the proper pump elsewhere but it was hard. Maybe this pump would have worked with some effort but I wanted the original type.

This pump should have an interference fit w/ the pulley but is manufactured w/ an undersized pulley shaft that will not work w/ factory original pulley. I've tried 4 different pumps all remanufactured by this company (2 from Autozone, 1 from O'Riellys, & this one from Cardone). Do not purchase this item, just buy a reseal kit for your original.

This is not correct for a 1978 Firebird with a stock chevy 350 engine, however, I replaced the outer housing with my old one that was in good shape and it works just fine, no leaks or noises.Might work on other firebirds depending on what engine they came with
