I'm going to start off by saying that this is a really cool item with a lot of nice, thoughtful extras. For instance, while it's a lot like build-it-yourself furniture, the only required tool, a screwdriver, is included! They also recommend wearing gloves when doing the assembly to "prevent injury" (mostly avoiding splinters) and those are included as well! To top it off, if you've ever built DIY furniture, you might've had that moment where a screw dropped into the void during the task and they only gave you the EXACT amount needed, but these folks aren't at all stingy. There are not only extras, but a decent number of them.Getting started, there's a good list of all parts and the instructions are nicely illustrated, but I ran into a snag when I began as apparently they changed screw types without altering the illustrations. In short, I assembled the base using the wrong ones. (The bags could use a sticker maybe?) But this was only a minor inconvenience and while the instructions say the assembly time is 40-60 minutes, it took me about 90-120 even after recruiting my handy cordless screwdriver. The pieces are measured with neat perfection and fit together easily. [TIP: run a light bead of wood glue in all of the joints. It'll make it much more durable.] Some looked a bit dusty, so I wiped down the inside of the wheel before applying the self-stick hook-and-loop tape that secures the carpet in-place. There's a little extra of this, too, so I reinforced it at various points. Another bit not in the manual is a disc that is also hook/loop. I assumed this was to be used at the point where the ends of the carpet meet, and I made sure to place it over the hole where the locking device inserts. It's a simple block that can immobilize the wheel. I rolled the carpet strip up, which made installing it a breeze, and again, it was measured perfectly. Once the wheel was placed on the base, it was ready to go! It spins very easily and is about as quiet as a file cabinet drawer slide. At last it was time to introduce it to my cats. Many cats might not understand the treadmill idea, and might even be afraid of it! The manual has some suggestions as to how to entice a pet, like using a laser pointer, a feather wand, and the ultimate cat lure: catnip! Alas, I only had one: the 'nip, and as you can tell by the photo, it at least got them past any fear of it. Time, and a bit more encouragement, should have them all over it in no time! For tonight, they're having a blast... with the box it came in.All in all, a fun time for both me and my fur babies!
