Bought this because I lost my charger for the radio (VX-6R). It works great with or without the charging base. The base is just a bonus. I had tons of batteries but no charger. Now I am all set. This is a good value and you will not regret purchasing this charger and charger base.

If the AC transformer is connected directly to the radio it will charge. The base charger does not work at all.
