I've poured a nice scotch in this a few times and so far so good. I noticed when it arrived, the inside smelled kind of chemically, not really like wood or charred wood. I scrubbed it out and it seems to have fixed it. This didn't come with care instructions so I've just been washing it out. I have noticed this does change the flavor of the whiskey, but I haven't decided yet how I feel about that. Feels a little more burn in the back of the throat, but not in a whiskey way. The cup feels really light and takes some getting used to if you're used to drinking whiskey out of a nice heavy glass. The outside is nicely finished, nicely packaged. It definitely feels fun to drink out of for something different.

Looks nice but does not have the charred taste and does not make the smell or taste any better. Do not purchase.

This elegant, unique-looking whiskey "glass" is fantastic! It's one solid piece, so it won't leak through the bottom, it fits comfortably in your palm or between your fingers, however you prefer to hold it, but by far my favorite feature is the way it smells. The charred wood on the inside is smokey, yet mild so it doesn't interfere with the scent of your whiskey, and really enhances the peat, smoke, and wood tones in your drink. Definitely a great buy for whiskey enthusiasts.

I had high hopes but sadly did not live to expectation.Pro:- cup looks like cool wood cupCon:- charred inside did not enhance flavor- no aromatic feature- made no difference in drinking experienceThis ended up just being another cup in our collection but wouldn't buy this unless you want wood cups that have this specific shape.

This is an interesting product to say the least, and gets credit for being a whisky vessel that is a bit out of the ordinary. However, I'm not sure if the novelty really lasts being the initial uses. From an appearance standpoint, it is quite nice. For the untrained eye, the cut seems flawless and the finish nice and clean. The char is visibly prominent in the inside and a nice contrast to the lighter outer shade. You definitely get the char on the nose, and in a side-by-side comparison of the same whisky there was a noticeable difference. Whether strictly from the nose or infused from the char, I couldn't quite tell myself. Whether the change palette is worthwhile, though, is up to question. I didn't find it to be bad by any means, but I wouldn't call it an enhancement so much as just a difference.Something that worries me about this is that I do not know how the wood was sealed. There was nothing on the box or in the product description confirming that everything is food safe. It seems to just be implied based on the intended use. I couldn't easily find anything online for this brand confirming the safety of this cup, so it seems to mostly just be a matter of how much one trusts that the company did the right thing.Overall, even though it is an interesting concept I am finding it a bit of a novelty, and doubting I'll be using it long term. Especially not knowing 100% that it was varnished in a food safe manner. That being my personal take, I do recognize that many would still like and appreciate this, and it especially could be a nice gift for a whiskey lover.

I'm a woodturner, so I ordered it specifically to harshly criticize it.It is an end-grain turning from quarter-sawn.They stopped at 120grit sandpaper when sanding and then right to a finish, so no micro-mesh, no friable grit, just 120. Exterior is stained, and it doesn't smell like a polyurethane finish, nor do I smell a wax, so a simple shellac is my best guess. If it was made by a human with no jig to get such a great sidewall, I'm envious. I suspect a duplicator jig though. No skew was used, this is a carbide job.The inner char, though. It was coated with something after the char. If I'm right on the shellac, ok fine because foodsafe. If it is a water-based poly, I'm not drinking out of this.Lastly, marketing-wise, the smoked char is to transfer to the whiskey for that taste. Ya'll coated it with a finish though. No smokey wood taste is getting through that. The thing overall, real classy. You are not sanding properly though. These random dark stain lines across the grain. Just take the extra 30 seconds to correct the tearout before you stain, and then it is décor as well.People would complain if you didn't seal the sooty char, I get it. I just need to know this is shellac before I drink from it.Don't put it in the dishwasher.

This is a really cool cup. Its made of real wood, and has a smooth, natural woodgrain finish. The inside of the cup is charred, but doesnt have any char smell (for better or worse...).I tried some Bulleit bourbon in this with a few ice cubes, and my thoughts were that this is more of a "cool" or novel experience type item than it is a flavor enhancer or something along the lines of taset improvement.Overall though, its really cool and I'd highly recommend it as a cheap-ish gift for the whiskey drinker in your circle!
