This kalimba was ordered to join a collection of beautiful sound healing instruments including native american flutes, hand pan, and tongue drums, crystal harp, gong, Himalayan bowls, etc. All the instruments are tuned to A=432Hz. I’ll be tuning this kalimba accordingly. It’s pretty easy to tune them. There is a kalimba already in my collection that I have tuned to A=432Hz, the bars/notes can be pulled out, or pushed in to change the notes/tuning of each. This does require a little metal hammer that I received with the kalimba I already had. It is just a small weighted piece that allows for basic taping in either direction of each tongue/note. Anything that can slightly tap the metal tongues, and then a guitar tuner to confirm tuning of each note.Eventually I would like to get one of the kalimba with an internal pickup/microphone, there are some pretty good sounding ones that I have heard that can be plugged into a preamp for recording. This Kalimba in comparison to my other one sounds pretty much identical. This one feels a bit more solid and seems to have less body resonance (likely due to the beautiful paint job that adds a layer to the body of the kalimba)Overall this kalimba is a nice little instrument for all ages young and old. They are such delightful sounding instruments that are fun to play and listen to.

The Kalimba sounds calming and true, each note is in tune. The box resonates and enhances the volume as expected.Construction is solid, with steel tines screwed over wood risers, the box is thick enough wood that it's not going to break from dropping a few feet up. I'd still prefer not to experiment but for young and rough kids it'll hold up pretty decently. I'd be more worried about kids bending the tines, even though they're steel that could be something to warn youngsters to be careful with. The kit and book it comes with is fun for music beginners to learn basics about music and is well-written and designed.Playing the instrument with your thumbs correctly is shown, it's a lot of fun, and really relaxing. With the cool little carrying bag to keep everything together, professional packaging and construction, and a tuned mellow sound that works for everything from sound healing to indie rock, I can happily recommend the Happy Kalimba for the value.

I love kalimbas. They're easy to play once you get the hang of the note layout, and they're fun to play by ear. This one has such a pretty and unique appearance! Based off the photos I wasn't sure if it was completely painted, or just the front. Mine is painted yellow on the exterior, though the interior has visible wood grain on what I can see inside and isn't painted.Mine came slightly out of tune, but good enough to play other than one tine that had to be adjusted to a different note. It's good to have a tuner handy so you can check before starting. An issue with hollow kalimbas is that the outermost (shorter tine) notes may not sound as clear and loud as ones closer to the center. While that is the same with this kalimba, I still feel like the outermost notes make proper note sounds. An improvement for me would have been a case to store the kalimba in, rather than a bag. That's about the only thing that I wish were different. The guide book is a great introduction, and it's all in English. But it's mainly devoted to music theory and then just contains several songs without talking about things like how to glide the thumb for chords, etc. I would recommend supplementing this with other materials if you don't know how to play yet. But I do think this is a very pretty and unique kalimba, and I'm really happy with it.

This makes a beautiful sound and makes beautiful music. We had one previously for my husband and my son liked it, so when this one came up I got it for my son. Ended up trading my husbands for this one because this one says for kids but the keys on this one are tighter and harder for my sons little fingers to press down on and manipulate. I would say this is probably more for older kids (think 6+) based on how tight the keys are to press/move.. and how difficult my 3 (nearly 4) year old found it to be.The keys on my husbands other one were not as tight/strong/thick? Of a metal so they were easier to manipulate for our son. Just depends on the build I guess. Otherwise though the kalimba itself works and looks great! My husband still loves and enjoys it and it sounds wonderful.
