I was never in band myself, but these were ordered for my 5th grade clarinet playing daughter. As recommended by her band teacher, we normally purchase the Vandoren reeds.According to my daughter (since I know nothing):These reeds are crescent cut, instead of the French cut like she’s used to. It’s hard blowing through them and whenever she makes a sound, it just squeaks. Multiple reeds were tried, but unfortunately, they’re all worthless.Even though the clear case they come in appears to be useful, they are only held together with tape with no way for them to snap together and stay closed.Don’t bother with this purchase. They’re trash.

The price is right for what you get. Some are cut off center, none were cracked or chipped, the case is not very secure so if you have a better one transfer them across. They are ideal for younger beginners who easily damage reeds by chipping the edges and may not notice the offcenter cut, but for those more experienced there are better options out there.

I have been very weary about buying off brand reed’s but I decided to try these out. I’m in a community band and tried these at my weekly practice and it was great! My tone was perfect and I haven’t had it so good in a long time. I’ve recommended them to my fellow clarinetists.

The most important thing a reed needs for my band students is to be consistent from reed to reed, especially for beginners. That makes it easy to figure out if the issue is their embouchure (how they form their mouth), the instrument, or if the problem is--hopefully not--the reed. These reeds seem like a great value, but even just a visual inspection shows some of the issues. The picture shows that the reed blanks are not cut evenly, which will encourage warping and make them vibrate unevenly. In addition (hard to show in a picture), the majority of the reeds in the package warp away from the flat side just a little bit, which may cause too much of a tip opening. So far, I've tried 4 of the reeds in the pack, and 1 works well, two get a sound but don't respond consistently, and one could not produce a sound.

I've been playing clarinet since 2nd grade, over 50 years. At a 2.5 thickness, these reeds could be used by either a strong beginner or a seasoned professional. They are uniform reed to reed in terms of cut, thickness and quality. And the fact you can get 20 reeds for the excellent, low price offered is just icing on the cake. If you need great 2.5 reeds for a song (sorry, couldn't resist), these are the reeds for you.

I've been buying clarinet reeds since 1984 when I started playing. And now I buy them for my daughter, who plays in her college band. Our usual brand is kind of pricey but has never let us down. These were just as good. They lasted as long, felt just fine, and were actually a 2.5 instead of something that's just "close." What with all the games and parades and Mardi Gras, we run through a lot of reeds, so this was a nice find. Good reeds that don't break the bank.

My 10 year old grandson recently started playing the clarinet. These reeds work perfectly. He is happy with them. And with 20 in a pack, they should last quite a while. Definitely recommend.
