Light weight, great for swinging around, the sheath is awesome. For carrying on the hip I bought a hammer holster to just slip it into. I didn't buy this to use on wood, so for me it's perfect.

Cold Steel products are generally wellmade and sturdy. Long enough to generate power, short enough for an emergency kit. Worth the money and should last.

The hatchet (trench hawk) arrived (along with a replacement handle) in a timely manner. The hatchet appears to be well made (although I don't require the back spike, it could be useful). The fit and finish is very good and the head blade was acceptably sharp. The head seems a little heavy for the balance, but one can adjust the hand grip to suite their purpose from light chopping to fairly heavy striking. The sheath is pretty innovative, although it would be better if it had a belt strap/ molle attachment. For the price you pay for this hatchet, I don't see how you could go wrong, I can't say how well it will last but unless you abuse it I don't see why it won't wear well. But if the handle degrades one can buy a replacement for very little $$$. Recommended

Yikes, the pointy spike and razor sharp main blade edge make this thing pretty formidable. With a hefty good swing I would think the spike would have a pretty decent chance of penetrating completely through body armor. At least the kevlar pistol rated variety, anyway. The handle is long enough to get a good two handed swing with it, which I like a lot, and I have huge hands. I have another tomahawk that is one hand only, which is ok, but I think this one will be a bit more devastating. The handle is a little smooth and slick, so holding onto it securely could possibly be an issue, especially if you hands are wet. But I should be able to figure something out about that. I do not foresee a reason I would need for throwing this, so I am confident the handle will hold up alright under regular use. I would not want to be on the receiving end of this, that's for sure. And a bonus is that it makes a great tool for gardening. Lol

First things first, this thing is very sharp right out of the box. Also beware that it has a liberal coating of grease on the head that takes 90% alcohol and about 15 paper towels to get the head sterile. In case you’re interested, here’s the specs:-0.25” spine thickness-flat ground-the head has a distally taper tang-the temper line is about I/4” from the shinogi (the top of the grind)-the balance is very good and it's about a half inch forward of the bottom bolt-the case is very sturdy, but try to move the nylon strap out of the way before you swing the case off, because if you don’t, you’ll end up slicing the strap clean off the sheath. And yes, it is sharp enough to shave hair right out of the box. I was actually some what surprised when I tried it out, because it worked better as a survival tool than my Spartan Enyo survival knife. The spike could also cause some very gruesome wounds. The handle is NOT slippery like other reviewers say and the replacement handles are inexpensive. You can also remove the head very easily with a Allen wrench. The edge length is 3 3/4”, which is actually 1/4” more than they say it is. Don’t listen to all they horror reviews the people that write them seem to never be pleased with anything. Just buy it, and you won’t be disappointed.

Came oiled and sharp, with effective but minimal sheath. Definitely a combat axe, but a damn nimble one and sturdy, as usual for Cold Steel. Highly recommend!

I haven't thrown it yet but I really love this tomahawk. Super sharp right out of the box, even cut myself on it. The only flaw is it's not a chainsaw so don't bother cutting down entire trees, but small branches are doomed. Buy it now!
