Thanks to its patent pending locking mechanism, all you have to do to change a worn or damaged handle is to loosen the bolts, slip out the worn handle and exchange it for a new one and re-tighten the bolts. I bought this axe because it was advertised as having “easy handle replacement.” Turns out, that’s completely false.Cold Steel doesn’t sell replacement handles, and you can’t just swap in a generic one. The handles are custom-made with grooves and a pin, so unless you plan on carving a new one from scratch, good luck.If you’re buying this to actually throw and replace the handle when needed, don’t. You’ll end up with an axe head and a lot of regret.

When I received it, the handle was already loose inside the head also it appeared to be cracked. I replaced the handle before even trying to use it for throwing.

Bought this product because I have quite a few “cold steel” products. This hatchet is built very well and balanced great. My only complaint is that this hatchet did come pretty dull so I had to put a better edge on it with my worksharp knife sharpener. The hatchet is good to go now and definitely sticks. I would definitely recommend but just keep in mind it might come dull. That’s why I gave it 4 stars.

When I received the product there was a chip in the axe that I don't feel would have gone away after sharpening. The head was also loose. I liked the design of the allen key bolts but in the end returned it for a different version

The axe comes dull, but is easily sharpened. It has a nice, thin profile. The head had a bit of play between it and the handle, but that’s easily remedied by snugging the two torx screws. It is well balanced, and once sharpened, will stick across the grain of the target without much force. It may not be the best axe to learn technique. The handle will suffer. If you can stick it in the wood, it’s a good buy for the price.

Leider nicht zu empfehlen: Der Stiel hatte am ersten Tag nach nicht mal 50 Würfen gleich drei Längsrisse. Habe die Axt am zweiten Tag zurückgesendet. Nach mehr als drei Wochen kam die Antwort von Mila Sports zurück: "Eine Rücknahme mit kompletter Erstattung ist leider nicht möglich, da Sie uns die Wurfaxt stark benutzt und extrem beschädigt zurückgeschickt haben." Ich habe die Wurfaxt mit neuen Stiel zurück bekommen. Jetzt ratet mal, wie lange dieser Stiel gehalten hat...

Ordered this last week, used it quite a bit since then as a thrower since then, no complaints here. It’s as sharp as I expected, handle was tight and can easily be replaced, just ordered another.

So I was totally excited for my Cold Steel thrown axe!! I Received the package opened it everything looked perfect so I went outside to my throwing set up.Boom 1st try one handed stuck awesome and 2ed try Boom 2 handed stuck great and every time after boom stuck!! But no Lie I haven’t even missed yet!! I’ve only had it for a few days but I’ve thrown it all day long and it’s holding up but Like I said I’ve been sticking every time. This axe gives me such a internal Joy it’s worth every penny!!!!I I will be purchasing the cold steel professional thrower also can’t wait to try that out if it’s anything like this one wow!! Thank!

Have been throwing hawks (HB Forge, 19" approx 22oz) for many years.....Decided to try a throwing axe to see difference and whether I could get good with it....This Cold Steele axe weighs 30oz and 16" ....Threw it from the standard 12' and stuck first try close to bullseye....Was surprised, since it's shorter and heavier.....Practiced for several more throws and like this puppy!...I like the bolted head...Will be easier to replace handle some day, if needed....There's an Axe Bar near my friends in Cape Coral, so takin' this with me on next visit....Hope to get good enough to compete some day.....Attached photo of sharp throwing toys....Not aiming at circles, just trying to avoid missing ones on log....

It's not light weight. 22oz chunk. It came fairly sharp. Very sturdy and easy to adjust head position. It throws very well. Hits hard. The straight blade seems to prefer sticking with the top forward point.Have no fear using it to chop into a log. The straight edge and weight will do pretty deep cuts even with only a moderate edge.The straight handle makes it easy and fast to adjust your grip position (ie if you need to grab higher for more precise work).

Love these axes!!By the end of a long night of throwing, one of the handles broke. I had written the company and was sent replacement the very next day! Super speedy delivery both times, with in 18 hours.
