I have ordered and sold this exact tool (Colonial Needle Felting Tool II) through my small wool crafts business for almost 5 years. Three years ago, I bought a bunch (15+) from a wholesale distributor and many of them were poorly made, with the drill holes not plumb/straight, so when the needles were loaded into the tool, they were all crooked, crossed and at odd angles. If you needle felt, you know this is a nightmare and guarantees the breaking of needles. I returned them directly to Colonial Needle for replacement, and got decent replacement tools. When it was time for me to order again, I saw that my distributor went out of business. I was in a pinch because I needed these tools for a class and was about to go to Colonial direct, but found them on Amazon and ordered 10 of them since I knew with my Prime membership they would arrive FAST and at no additional shipping cost. Turns out 8 of the 10 were defective! If there is such a thing as a professional needle felter, I guess I could be called that, since I make more than 700 items each year to sell to museum stores and galleries. I used to recommend and sell this tool for hobbyists, artists, and anyone else who needs a good tool to hold multiple needles for hand needle felting, but NO MORE. The quality is very inconsistent and not dependable. Attached are two photos showing what was typical of the tools in my recent order from Amazon (photo 2, right) and what the proper alignment for this tool should be (photo 1, left - kind of a star like shape). Amazon Customer Service wins again, as I returned all these tools and got a complete refund. Thank you Amazon.

It does work, but it is not comfortable. It would work better if the handle would fit my hand and if I had purchased extra needles. It comes with 6 needles and can hold 12, If I did felting a lot, I would want more needles and a much larger handle. The handle is not very comfortable to hold... It is sized more for child's hand than an adult's hand so there is no way to grip it that is comfortable to work with and my hand cramps up after just a few minutes. The handle is only 2 inches wide at it's widest point and has a narrow yolk for your fingers. It is well constructed.. just too small for an adult.

This is a great tool specifically for felting with a lot of needles at once. I thought it also might be good to use with just 1, 2 or 3 needles in it but its too hard to get 2 or 3 needles close together and I prefer a thinner pen style for single needle felting. So get this for doing large areas with all the needles inserted. Nice, comfy grip and easy unscrew top for adding new needles.

Needles fit tightly. Handle feels good in my hand. Obviously, having several needles per punch is faster than what can be held in fingers or a smaller holder.

My mom is pleased with her felting tool. it made a great gift with the bulk needles. It appears to be holding up well.

I am a needle felter and received this tool for christmas this year from my family. At first I was stubborn and wanted to felt with one needle like I am used to. I decided to try it and now I love it. For felting large areas or areas that need intense felting, this tool is great and makes it go so much faster. I still would use a single needle for detailing and smoothing, but this is great for getting your felt to the point before detailing. Price is good and ofcourse Amazon is amazing with shipping.

THIS Needle Felting Tool is the BOMB! :-)The things I really like are that I can choose any number of needles to use up to TWELVE at a time. I can also choose the size of needles I want and/or mix sizes (though I'm not sure why I'd want to...). With the way the needles fit in the tool itself, it is possible for me to group them closely, or spread them out if I want. This is REALLY helpful if I am making a big piece of felt and want to work fast, or a small piece and want to be fast, but still precise. Changing needles is SIMPLE, and the handpiece of this felting tool is actually comfortable and hand-shaped. It is easy to keep a good grip, which with very sharp felting needles is very important. This brings me to the ONE drawback to this tool: NO guard. I stick mine into a piece of old foam when not in use to avoid close encounters of the uncomfortable kind. Problem solved. The tool comes with six needles, which is nice.I have a different multi-needle felting tool, which is somewhat limited. (E.g. The guard doesn't function properly in a consistent way; the needle spacing is extremely close; changing needles is complicated; the plastic is slick and hard to hold, the "handle" is pretty much nonexistent; etc.) When this Colonial tool showed up on Amazon, available through Prime no less, I JUMPED. Amazon priced it 35% lower than I had seen it priced elsewhere, before the shipping break even entered the picture. This is one of my favorite time savers. A word of caution, though - these are for FLAT surfaces, not for felting over styro balls, etc. Use it right, and it's a huge help. Use it wrong, and needles twist and break, fingers get stabbed, etc. It's worth looking at directions. :-)
