This gas detector seemed to work fine, but the alarm is not shrill and high-pitched like a smoke alarm. It is loud (measured at 90 dB), but medium-pitched and will barely penetrate walls. We had it mounted over our gas range, and were not confident at all that we would hear it from our adjacent bedroom while sleeping. I have returned this item for another gas detector with WIFI connectivity and iPhone notification, and am much happier.

This monitor has top-notch features, but my recommendation can be based only on the presence of two separate ones, each a check for the other. The mid-price is good, and I feel secure with this and one other one. My hardwired one doesn't set my mind enough at ease for just that one.For being so small and unobtrusive, it has powerful and impressive features. It's important to familiarize oneself with what they are, and there are more than I can even define. The description supplied is a good one, very clear. Nope, I'm not being lazy, just realistic. The rest of this is just back story intended to sell you mostly on adequate protection. Skip it if desired:Ten years ago, not long after I'd moved into a house, I had routine servicing done on my oil furnace. The service guys found that a pipe had nearly fallen off. They said I that the previous people couldn't have even taken the front off for a real inspection. (They said I should have been dead, but I was most upset about my still-healthy kitty.)The hardwired fire/CO monitor gave no indication of a problem.

I used both an analog thermometer and digital thermometers. This unit always matched whether inside or out. I did the test they show and it alarmed correctly. I also plugged it in throughout my house. Also a plus while it is good size if used on the bottom it doesn't block the other outlet. Then I went to the place most likely to have an issue next to my gas water heater in my garage and left it plugged in there. The price is right where it should be when I looked through other sensors. It seems to be able to do the job I want it too. I do wish there was a US code complaint kind of thing on it. To know the design and random units pass the US requirements does make a difference. It is possible there was a symbol that means it was tested but I didn't see it. So from the low accuracy testing I did it passes and since my risk is low having mostly electrical appliances. I am happy to have it just in case. If you are looking to buy a device similar to this one. I believe you will be satisfied with this one. It's easy to use, functions well from what I can determine at serious leak detection. The alarm is not that loud but with the bright flashing lights it would be hard to miss.

This CO/CH4 gas monitor is very easy to set up and use but the instructions are confusing and can seem contradictory.Pros... Right out of the box, just plug the unit into any receptacle (although I would place it as close to a potential leak as possible). We placed our unit next to our natural gas (CH4) fireplace that still uses a pilot light. The unit will give you a voice acknowledgement that it is "active." The carbon monoxide (CO) concentration window will count down from 180 to 0 sec (while the detector literally warms up) then displays the current concentration of CO in parts per million... which hopefully will be 0. The instructions say it takes 30 minutes to stabilize for an accurate temperature/humidity reading in the room. The device has a test button for the 85 decibel alarm if the gas level in the room reaches a dangerous level. The Cons... I purchased the unit to alert us to both a CO and/or natural gas (CH4) leak, in case the pilot light on the fireplace goes out in which case the CO detector isn't very useful. The "Technical Information" section is confusing... it lists a section for CO with the dynamic range of the detector for CO (0-2000 ppm) and the concentration that triggers the alarm for CO (150 ppm). Keep reading though... it lists a detection range for "Gas" which it means methane but that wasn't clear to me. This range is 0-10% LEL (lower explosive limit) and states the alarm will go off at 5%. I added a small amount of methane in a bottle and held it under the alarm. The "CO GAS" monitor, changed to just "GAS" and read 3% when the alarm sounded "Gas Leak, Gas Leak" repeatedly.SO YES IT IS A DUAL CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) AND METHANE (NATURAL GAS/CH4) MONITOR AND WORKS WELL.

This is a good CO and gas monitor. When plugged in for the first time there is a voice message, and it takes a while to initialize. I don't have the capability to test accurately; however, it seems to function fine. Temperature and relative humidity are continuously displayed along with CO levels.Since it is powered by the plug, no batteries are required. So, if the power is out to the plug, then the monitor wouldn't work. Of course, then the power would probably be out to the furnace also. It would have been helpful to have a battery backup to the monitor though. For example, the power could go out, but a gas water heater could have a leak in the venting which could cause a CO rise. Or a malfunctioning furnace could be on a different electrical circuit. Also, since most plugs are near the floor, except in kitchen countertops, it is hard to see the temperature/humidity on the display, which limits its usefulness.Overall, every house should have multiple CO monitors for safety, and this is an easy to deploy option. I deducted a star because there is no backup battery.
