First, the harness connector for the trailer controller is above the shock on the driver's side. Just feel for it. Wrap the wiring in shrouding if you got it, or anti-rub tape, electric tape worst case..Now the rest, I used to have the 1¼ bumper hitch on my 16 outback, took about 30 min to remove that. Remove the tail lights, bumper, spare tire, foam/carpet on drivers side of the cargo area. Muffler bolts are 14mm,pop that off, take the heat shield off (10mm). After you rough the receiver on, mark where to drill, I used a ½ metal bit and it was perfect. Put everything in place, thread locker on the bolts, torqued them down and installed. All in all it's a easy process. My frame was not sealed off. I actually like this better than the bumper mount one, doesn't look as clean, but still great looking, and I know it's not moving.

Fits pretty flush under the bumper. Easy install with pretty straight forward directions. Was nice they included 2 fish wires because they do bend easily. Got to use a step bit to widen the access hole. Otherwise I imagine it would take forever.

The hitch itself: great, sturdy, fit like a glove, honestly a 5-star product (but nobody reads the 5-star reviews, so I gave it 4-stars so people might actually read this).Installation: We have a 2014 Subaru Outback. It took me about 3 hours, including the trip to the hardware store. The major time-consuming step is grinding out the access holes in the frame so that the spacer and bolts can be fed through to connect the hitch. I thought that I might be able to tackle that with the hand-files that I have in my toolbox. That *might* be true, but my arms got too tired after a while. So, protip: go get a 1/2" cobalt or carbide drill bit meant for drilling steel. You will need that. Also go get a rotary tool and a small carbide bit meant for grinding out steel. These will make the job much, so much easier.Actually feeding the bolts through the frame was pretty straightforward once the holes were opened up. I'd say 80% of the time was spent on grinding steel, 10% of the time moving the muffler out of the way/putting it back, and the other 10% on bolting the hitch into place (you *will* need a torque wrench, or a wrench with a long pipe for some extra leverage).TLDR: 5-star hitch, carve out several hours for installation, get all the necessary tools in advance. Wear safety goggles.
