I bought two of these long time ago. They work great with a RPi 3B and Volumio. Recently, I have tried to buy a third. I've tried three times. And all three have had male pins on top and no female connector at the bottom. The two originals have no male pins, and a female connector so it can be installed as a hat on the Pi. The product picture also suggests no male pins and a female connector.

HiFi Berry is a great company but this seller has a terrible shipping time and it’s been delayed repeatedly.

The product delivered was not the one shown in the Amazon listing. The information on the packaging was correct but the product inside was not that product. I understand from discussing this with the HIFIBERRY team that this is a repackaged OEM product not intended for sale to endusers.

Yup, it's a DAC HAT for a pi zero. It's an easy install. Attach it and add a line to config.txt if you're using Raspbian. If you've paid list for both devices you now have a streaming player for under $50. You can pay more for better components and get better quality audio but this is a fine solution for using with a powered speaker or a bedroom or garage system.

I installed it on a Pi 0w, and loaded up moode for an OS. Plays flawlessly, for local library, internet radio, Bluetooth, and Airplay. Would recommend highly.

A 3.5mm jack socket could have been included. Even if they passed the cost on to the customer.DAC sounds pretty good and the build is good.

I was using a Logitech Squeezebox, and the analog RCA outputs stopped working. A Raspberry Pi Zero plus the DAC is a complete drop-in replacement. The only thing to watch out for is how well the DAC fits on the GPIO headers through a case - I had to try a couple of cases before finding one that worked to my satisfaction.

I have been using this for a few months now with some monitors that have dual-input, so I can listen to music through the DAC+ Zero while also having audio from my computer. The ability to cast to it using AirPlay with Volumio is pretty awesome, although sometimes the AirPlay drops out and the device disappears from the menu. However, I'm pretty sure any issues I've experienced are more to do with Volumio and/or the SD card than the DAC itself. It produces great sound even out of mp3 and streaming radio. A good low-power and small audio device, if you are looking for a solution.
