Personally Iām using it to slightly widen the opening in links of chain. Works great as a punch too.

The punches came blunt on the end, like they were dropped before tempering. I very carefully reground a sharpish point at the same angle and it smashed into an 1/8" diameter flat spot on the first tap into some mild steel. Iv had plenty of experience regrinding punches, and I didn't distemper it. It would appear that it was never tempered.

I bought this punch because of the 5 star ratings. I got it today & what a let down. My 50/60 year old punches had been reground so many times that they were getting short. Well... This one is made in America & LOOKS pretty. But the business end is NOT ground to a point. It is ground to a 60 degree angle but the POINT IS ROUNDED OFF! You can't make an accurate punch mark with a blunt nose center punch. It might be OK in wood, but it's no good for any kind of metal (maybe lead). As received, it's useless, but I can regrind the tip to make a point (shouldn't have to on a brand new "Made in America" tool.

Best punch I've used to date. AR400 is a hardened steel used in making wear plate for granite crushers. Never had the tip chip.

This is a great center punch, good quality and leaves a good mark. I've always had great luck with Dasco tools, they are good quality and reliable.
