I bought this after sleeping on the floor for years living below poverty and wanted a cheap alternative to a bed. I made the frame with cinder blocks and 1x6x6 cedar boards screwed into 2x4 on each side for the base. I have this sitting on top of the base with another futon for extra padding, but this is comfortable to use on its own. It provides the right amount of firmness and support I need. I’ve worked desk jobs for the last couple years and managed to not have back pain. A couple winters ago I brought it out to the living room and slept in front of the fireplace for a more intimate space.

I've bought and sold this thing 3 times (I've moved around a bit). I love that it is nice and firm, yet very thin and minimal. Despite how thin it is, you don't sink through to touch what is beneath. I also like how it folds up easily, allowing for easy transport in the event of a move. For a minimalist who likes a simple, firm sleeping surface (but isn't a monk who sleeps on the floor--I've been there too), this is perfect.

I bought this mattress in the queen size a little over 5 years ago and it's still holding up great. It's definitely worth a try for those wanting to go more minimal or for those with body pain, as some of the more traditional mattresses are not so great for the body, imo, and are way more expensive. Originally, i tried pairing it with the recommended futon but the futon was way too firm for my taste. Instead, i paired it with a cheap mattress pad and that did the trick but you may find the bed to be comfortable on its own.Edit: My old one that i wrote the original review about developed some sagging so i bought a new one. The foam density in the new one is not the same as the old one. It's way too soft and is already permanently sagged in places. I've had it less than a month. I'm waking up with back pain, hip pain and headaches every morning. So unfortunately i need to knock this down to 1 star.

Bought this honestly not expecting all that much, assuming it'd only last a year which would give us enough time to decide on a box spring and mattress set at which point we would use this as a guest bed or somethingIt's been over two years and this thing still feels brand new - no sagging in any spots and the cover looks just finePaired this with a Japanese Futon mattress recommended on the buy page, and they go perfectly togetherMay eventually buy a platform or bed frame to put this on, but so far it's worked great just on the floorAnother nice thing is that it makes moving a breeze compared to lugging around even just a regular mattress, since this just folds up and weighs practically nothing by comparisonVery impressed and would buy again should I need another

This mattress is VERY firm. Not the most comfortable for side sleepers, great for back sleepers. It works well as our guest bed though. We bought a foam topper which helps with the firmness. Overall, I would suggest this product.

This is a good mattress. It was exactly what I was looking for. I was a little worried it would be too soft but the firmness was perfect; it actually took me a few days to get used to. On a 1-4 scale of firmness with 4 being the firmest, this is a very solid 3 (maybe a 3.5). My old bed was a nova foam bed which is very comfy but the problem was that I suspected it was contributing to back ache and misalignment. I wanted a firmer surface without having to sleep directly on the floor. First few nights on the futon I could really feel it stretch my hips! For what I was looking for, this was a good buy.

I purchased this back nine months ago and yesterday donated it to the Salvation Army. The foam had started to disintegrate and the polyurethane smell became unbearable to sleep with.I got about eight months of good use out of it before the strong smell came about. I didn't do anything unusual with it--it had a mattress cover and mostly all I did was sleep on it. Perhaps someone more resistant to chemical will do just fine. I'm very disappointed at the quality of the foam pad, though, given the price.

Purchased this for guests to use at our house after sleeping on one while vacationing in Hawaii. We have gone through two air mattresses in the same number of years and were not aware that there were other options out there. We slept on it over a hardwood floor and both my husband and I were very comfortable on it and could sleep on our sides without feeling the floor. We also discovered that this is a great option for a toddler who is transitioning out of a crib as it is low to the ground and larger than a twin so they can roll around during the night a bit and not come close to falling off. We may have to get another one for guests as our son seems to have claimed this one.
