This brings back so many happy memories of one we had growing up. Love the set, but very disappointed in the packaging. The packaging is so flimsy I’m so lucky it wasn’t damaged when it arrived. Love the set and so happy with it.

Luckily I was ordering this to replace an older model of this skating pond so I had spare parts.Half the trees weren’t present. One or two of the figurines weren’t present.There wasn’t an AC adaptor.The box itself was all beat up and half of the foam packaging was missing (maybe the missing pieces were supposed to be packaged in that??).I made the mistake of ordering this without reading reviews first as it seems many other people have had similar problems.

We bought this ice skating rink to expand our village. It was brand new, unused, and beautiful when first set up. We loved this rink, however towards the end of our first year using it, the mechanics became very noisy and the ice skaters began to make a "popping" sound when moving around. Unfortunately, by the beginning of the second year, it completely stopped working. For how much money was spent on this and other houses from department 56, we were very disappointed in the quality of it. For 150 dollars, it should work much more efficiently and this should not be a concern. Upon the machine breaking, we reached out to department 56 customer service and were asked to supply information on our purchase. After supplying what they asked for, we never received and emails or inquiries since.Honestly, if you want a beautiful edition to your village, this definitely has the potential to do it, but I would not recommend running it for long periods of time (which is upsetting because then it loses its major selling point of the moving ice skaters). I truly wish that it was better quality for what we spent on it, and am very much disappointed in the customer service at department 56.

Completes my village. I bought it to replace mine that I had bought in 1995. The price was only ten dollars more than the one I bought in 1995.

Department 56 is my favorite brand for village pieces. I love their quality - the paint jobs, the details, it always surpasses Lemax by miles. So when I was looking for a skating rink, I figured this would be a safe bet. It also had the highest reviews. Wrong!My first gripe is with the brand packaging. It comes in a styrofoam type tray, wrapped in a thin cardboard sleeve of sorts, taped together with clear packing tape, and then wrapped in the final, branded, thin, cardboard sleeve. There’s also a good number of plastic bags with the various parts. It’s very cheap and flimsy and not very protective.Second issue is that it has zero lighting. I knew this when I bought it, but it’s still annoying. A couple Lemax brand spotlights fixed the issue - as another reviewer noted, you can hang them in the trees.The main issue is that it worked great upon setup and for MAYBE a week thereafter (on for several hours per night), and then it died. It started with a banging noise. The skaters started going off their tracks into unmarked rink area. After two nights or so of periodic banging, that was all she wrote. The magnets on the skaters don’t even pick up the magnets from the rink - it’s like none are there anymore.It turned into a $120, unlit, non-animated, decorative piece. No thanks! It’s going back to Amazon this week. I still have hope in D56 but I’m definitely disappointed in this purchase.

Just beautiful. For what it is. Resin figures can only look so nice. I usually repaint them. But they are fine as is. Nice smooth skating motion, minimal sound,I love the birch tree. Set up very nicely. Make sure to keep the surface clean. I use a wood spray type cleaner and a soft cloth once in a while. It keeps the surface smooth and slick so they glide easily. My only "thing" and this is NOT the sellers fault. Is that I found that the only "skaters" you can put on that one U shaped kind of track is the 2 skater one. It seems none of the others work on that one. They get hung up on the top of the "U'. That one goes slower, but gets all the way around. Not really a biggie. Just, if you had that issue, so did I. Came super fast, great condition. Im going to hate putting it away next month.

This snow pond is nice and it is big, but there are too many "small things" that bother me. Yes, it squeaks when the skaters are moving. The overall low quality of the materials doesn't justify the cost even when the price is discounted. And the packaging to house the snow pond when not in use is not robust enough to prevent damage. Also annoyed that I have to pay shipping to return the package, adding insult to injury.

YEARS AGO, I BOUGHT A DEPARTMENT 56 ICE SKATING RINK FOR MY DAUGHTER. IT WAS THE CHARLEY BROWN SET. WELL THE MOTOR BURNED OUT AFTER MANY YEARS, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO REPLACE IT THEY HAD STOPPED MAKING THAT ONE. AFTER LOOKING ON E-BAY AND ANYPLACE ELSE ON THE INTERNET, WITHOUT SUCCESS, I HAD A THOUGHT----MAYBE THE SNOOPY CHARACTERS WOULD SKATE ON THIS RINK. WELL THEY DID AND I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE TREES ON THIS SET WITH THE ONES FROM THE OLD SNOOPY SET, THAT HAD LIGHTS ON IT. MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDDAUGHTER WERE SO EXCITED, BECAUSE MY GRANDDAUGHTER WOULD STAND ON A STOOL FROM THE TIME SHE WAS ONE YEAR OLD AND JUST STARE AT IT FOR HOURS. NOW SHE'S OLDER AND HAS IT IN HER BEDROOM DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON TO ENJOY AGAIN.

I bought this to serve as the centerpiece to my village display and it was a perfect choice! I was able to put it together in minutes and it fits in perfectly with the rest of my pieces. It is easy to plug in and it has a nice long cord so I can hide the plug out of the way. The skaters' movement is smooth and fluid and the trees and accessories are adorable. The only thing i'd change is I wish it came with some way to light it up, or perhaps they could have lit it from underneath the skating pond. But I bought some department 56 string lights to wrap around a few of the trees and problem solved. Definitely worth the money!
