  • SUPER TOUGH BOTTOM DESIGN - our exclusive Super Tough Bottom is made of reinforced overlapping nylon webbing. This design allows for superior strength and durability while keeping your hay fresh and allowing dust and debris to exit the bag.
  • IMPROVES DIGESTION - horses are designed to spend up to 18 hours a day grazing. Slow feeding allows you to replicate this natural behavior and is recommended by veterinarians to prevent gastric ulcers, colic, and boredom-related behavioral vices.
  • ONE YEAR WARRANTY - this hay bag has a 1-year limited manufacturer's warranty offered by Derby Originals. This warranty covers manufacturing defects. Accidental damage or wear and tear is not covered. Contact the manufacturer for more information.

All the benefits of a slow feed hay bag now with an all natural bonus! No hardware less risk. Why should you use a slow feed hay bag? Slow fed hay bags and nets reduce the risk of ulcers, decrease the secretion of cortisol, helps minimize and alleviate boredom, increases chew time, increases digestion, reduces hay waste and assist in weight management. Horses naturally eat with their heads down. This creates less strain on the skeletal system and soft tissue which is not provided with standard hanging bags and nets. Natural Grazing enables the nasal passages to drain effectively Horses emotional states are closely tied to their body position and posture. If a horse is required to eat with their head elevated it encourages an alert and tense mental state Eating from the ground reduces the risk of hay and dust falling into your horse's eyes Eating from the ground does not restrict the horse's peripheral vision. When the peripheral vision is impaired it can create tension psychologically. Horses are prey animals and depend on sight and sound to detect predators All bags can be used on the ground or hung up if desired. Straps are removable so that there is no hardware when fed from the ground. Please remove straps when feeding on ground to prevent any injuries. 4 sided patented design U.S. Design Patent No. D742,078.

I own 5 of these bags and absolutely love them. They fit just over half a small square bale and it lasts my horse the day. I use them all year round. I tie my bag to a tree in my horses pasture and leave it on the ground, as he’s not shod. He much prefers these bags over nets. These bags won’t damage their teeth either, like nets can. I usually pack them all up on Sunday so I don’t have to do them in the morning before work. The cons? The Velcro doesn’t last, I had a seamstress replace the Velcro for me. And sometimes the tab on the end of the closure ropes pops off, but if you burn the end of the rope and put some electrical tape on it’d it’s as good as new!4 stars because of the minor cons I’ve found.

These hay bags are very durable and well made. I love the closure, which is a rope that weaves through the loops. There are handles on either end making it convenient to carry. I agree with others that the little velcro tabs are not up to the quality of the rest of the bag, but those are easy and cheap to replace if you need to. I got two bags and noticed the purple fades a little more than the blue. I can fit about a half a bale in each bag. These bags are not ones you hang somewhere, but are good for using in hay feeders, or even just on the ground.

Disappointed with this hay net. Two of the Velcro pieces tore off after only two uses. It’s still usable but I won’t be buying more

I’ve tried many brands of hay bag and these are by far my favorite. They hold a lot of hay, easy to fill and are very durable. I have three of them and so far they have lasted a year and a half of daily use. I have one horse that is notorious for chewing through the side of hays bags and even he has not chewed through these. The only thing I do not like is the closure system. I added clips to close mine and they work very well that way. The way they come is very time consuming to open and close.

I bought two 3/4 bale holders. 1 was for goats in a covered shelter area. The other is for outdoor feeding of horses. I found the Velcro tedious, and they come undone. When hanging the bale with the opening at the top a goat got his head stuck inside. Luckily he was not hurt. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but a horse fell and a handle that the bale was hanging by broke. Thankfully no permanent injuries. I now hang bales with the opening at the bottom. I also use the hanging rope to fasten the edges together, and hang the bales by another source.I was unable to use the bale holder outside during the winter. Our wet environment with freezing temperatures made the ropes so stiff they were unusable.I saw a review that said they did not hold 3/4 of a bale. They do if the bale is left bound. I pull nets over a twined bale. Then clip twines, remove excess hay, rope up end, and finally hang with the opening at the bottom.

So far, so good! This feeder allows me to load it up with a mix of alfalfa and pasture grass hay and my guy is good for about 2 days.*I use a bucket strap and clip it to the railroad ties that keep my rubber mats in place so it’s on the ground but it can’t end up on the wrong side of the fence. Also note this horse is barefoot, no shoes to get stuck.*Steve struggles with smaller holes but the 1.5-1.75” is perfect, not too slow to cause frustration or too fast which results in waste and defeats the purpose. So far it’s holding up great! I don’t love the way it closes for my time’s sake, BUT it’s working very well and he can’t sneak in the opening to cheat. I have a second one coming for another horse already!

I bought this last year and used outside all winter. Despite having a horse that is really hard on hay nets this is still in perfect condition. My only advice is that, in winter, when it gets wet it will freeze. I simply put it in my tack room (heated) overnight and put it back out the next morning. It is easy to fill and holds about 2/3 of a square bale. The little velcro pieces on the side are useless - my greedy horse figured out how to rip them open pretty quickly (and they are hard to close because they are so short). but I use some old rope to tie up the sides.

It's sturdy and well made, but it is a hassle to get the bale in there.

Love it. Easy to stuff. Holds 3/4s of a bale. I only feed a half bale a day so it's perfect and easy to fill. Has held up so well. Easy to repair where the stitching comes undone (it's fairly abused). Has really held up well. I use it as is or sometimes add another string net inside if I want to further limit intake. I stopped using the loops for the rope closure and just weave it thru the mesh. Way faster. And the velcro tabs rip but you don't need them. Will buy a 2nd next season so I only need to fill nets every other day.

This feels like it's just a few tries away from being awesome! I only tried it once with my horse in preparation for cooler weather but even filling it only the once the cord was already starting to fray at the end making it difficult to weave closed, I don't think the barn manager would like me very much by the end of the season. I like the size (and colour) so I'm trying to figure out an alternative, safe way to keep it closed because the cord it came with just won't do.

I absolutely love this. I can cram in 1 full flake off a 1000 lb bale and could definitely fit in 4 flakes off of a small bale. The rope closure seemed like it would be not great, but I love it. This bag is super easy to stuff, and close. I just run the rope through the closure loops and tie it in a knot at the end. I have about 6 inches of rope tail that I use to carry it. I use this in my mare's stall and throw it right down on the ground. She does move it around sometimes but isn't destructive or playful so it's fine just sitting. There is nothing that she can get her hoof caught in. She is NOT shod. If she was, I would be very concerned about having it on the ground as a shoe could get caught. This slows her down and takes her about 3 times as long to finish her hay. The intent is for her to have something to nibble on in between feedings which should reduce the chances of ulcers. It did take her a few days to figure out how to get the hay out. The first 24 hours she ignored it, but now is eating very well out of it. Having it on the ground is very good for their backs. Highly recommend. This thing is super durable and I believe it will last a very long time. I LOVE it.

I purchased 2 of these one blue and one purple. The blue one is working and holding up great, seems to be much more sturdy made than the purple. After just 3 uses of the purple bag the Velcro tabs tore off, after a week the bottom of the net tore open, the stitching came out, I sewed it back together and then today when I went down to feed the whole side all of the stitching had come out. Grrrr! I am so disappointed in this product but so satisfied with the way the blue one is holding up. To bad they chose to go with a cheaper design and materials! :(
