The DWV012 10-gallon dust extractor with automatic filter doesn’t leave its cleaning capability to chance—its automatic filter clean pulses every 30 seconds for continual operation, eliminating the need to stop and manually clean the filter. Between that convenient feature and the simple one-switch operation to select vacuum only or tool actuation when paired with a power tool, cleanup is more efficient than ever. The lightweight unit—it weights only 33.5 pounds—comes fully assembled on heavy-duty wheels and locking casters for durability as it’s tugged along dirty, dusty surfaces for cleanup. A telescoping handle further improves ease of transport, and the universal hose connector and included kink-resistant hose helps reduce clogging. A number of lift and tie-down points secure the DWV012 to scaffolding or other surfaces if necessary. With a 15-amp motor that delivers up to 140 CFM of airflow and a high-quality HEPA filter, job-site dust doesn’t stand a chance.

I bought this to use to keep dust down on remodeling job sites. I like that I can use it for sawdust, surface grinding (silica) lead, asbestos and other harmful types of dust, in addition to drywall and sawdust. The wheels on it are great and it rolls really well. I also like the yellow handle area on the front and the black part on the back you can put your foot on to tip it back to wheel. It is pretty heavy especially when full so its nice to able to wheel it up/down stairs. I know there were a lot of other reviews saying the black hose marks up walls. I have not had that happen at all. But I did notice when I unboxed the vac that the hose which is stored inside the vacuum did mark up the yellow plastic. That doesn't bother me at all just mentioning it. The vac does come with one adapter part that screws apart and can be used in multiple ways. I haven't had to use it yet it looks like it would be helpful if you are connecting to other tools NOT in the Perform and Protect series. The Perform and Protect tools are the ones with the hose connection that matches this extractor. So look for that label on the tool. The tools I have that I use this with are the variable speed orbital DWE6423K, DWS780 miter saw, and a Dewalt 5" grinder with this attachment DWE46152. The orbital works amazing with this vac! I just sanded down a bunch of red oak in someones living room today and there was literally ZERO dust. Get discs with the 8 hole pattern and it's freaking awesome. Also really impressed with the way it works with the saw and grinder.I have used the paper bags (one comes with it) and canvas bags so far. Haven't tried the plastic. Both bags are high quality, and was impressed how thick they are. I did notice the canvas ones are much bigger so even though they are more expensive I would recommend buying them because you can fill them up a lot more before having to change them. Also, I noticed a lot of reviews about the vac losing suction etc. If you don't want it to lose suction use the bags! Yes, I know it has self cleaning filters, but you should still use the bags. Bags cost a lot less than filters and you will always have maximum suction. The lack of tool storage not the unit actually doesn't bother me. I always thought having all the attachments on a shop vac was annoying anyway. They are always falling off and in the way. I do like how you can wrap up the hose and lock it to itself and lay it over the top of the vac and it fits well there and doesn't fall off.I bought this unit on amazon was it was $335 and I have Prime so shipping was free. Retail price is $599 and it's up around $500 currently. Definitely a nice piece of equipment but I would recommend getting the Perform and Protect tools to go with it. Its really really nice to not have to use duct tape and jerry rig dust collection adapters.

I fill the DWV012 with masonry wall grindings with no loss of suction. A contractor bought a DWV012 from me after his regular shop vac with HEPA filter clogged and failed to pull dust from his tool; I bought another. I have tried 6HP shop vacs with new HEPA filters but they allowed dust to pass into the exhaust; the DWV012 traps all dust even when its bag pre-filter fails.Caution:There is a discontinued "Type 1" version of the DWV012 that uses tapered cone-shaped filters that may be hard to find. The "Type 2" has cylindrical filters and has been out for several years. Amazon/CPO shipped a new Type 2.Advantages:+ True HEPA and EPA RRP lead paint dust certified+ tank and hose are grounded with a large copper clip to prevent static+ tool power outlet is very convenient+ onboard electric outlet is powered off when the vac switch is off -- this has saved me from starting a tool without dust collection! The onboard electric outlet is powered when the vac is running or in auto-on-mode+ goes up and down stairs and around floors very smoothly+ top is flat enough to place a tool box+ hose may be clamped to the back handle+ when emptying the bin, the black top has legs that prevent the filter and top from touching the ground. Dust will still fall on the ground when the top is set down, but not as much.+ the handle allows for shaking the dust out of the top into a trash bag. The vent ports are easily covered by duct tape to prevent dust from getting into the motor housing while shaking the dust out of the top.+ CFM is on-or for hose size+ off-brand bag and fleece filters are availableDisadvantages:- DeWalt paper bag pre-filters will slightly rip if the vacuum is started at high suction or when the air inlet is blocked (for example, caught in plastic sheeting). Makes clean-up messier than it should be.- to avoid ripped bag filters, turn the vac on at low suction and then increase suction (but that means not using the automatic outlet at high suction).- Dewalt hose adapters are expensive but on par with regular shop vac adapter costs- the locking connector may emit a high-pitched whistle at hose transitions -- the connector can be taped or moved to prevent the noise- do not run the motor when placed in an already-dusty room. the black top has three outlet vents on the back that will become covered with dust if there already are visible dust clouds in the surrounding air. This may be due to static build-up (from no equipment ground at an old wall outlet?) attracting ambient visible dust, or it may be due to a motor cooling fan drawing the ambient dusty air into the motor housing and expelling the dirty air, or it could have been that a filter was not attached tightly enough. So start with clean room air and use the vac from the beginning at your tool. I do not know if the motor is cooled by internal air after the filter, or by drawing surrounding air into the motor housing. I now run the vac in a separate room or outside the dust barrier using a long hose.- replacement filters are around $70 for a pair. That is about on par for two HEPA filters for regular shop vacs, but is still high.- filters can be difficult to twist on and off. Cylinder filters are harder to clean than rectangular filters.

This is one of the best tools I've bought for long time. I never wanted to be that guy with all the same tools, yellow and black as far as the eye can see.....but I can't knock Dewalt tools. I use this unit with the 5" orbital sander and Abranet disc, for wood, drywall and even just as a shop vac. For drywall it's great, not 100% perfect but pretty damn close, 97%to getting all the dust out of the air! The hose is plenty long, I use bags inside, it has nice big wheels and a telescoping handle. Very ergonomic to pick up and move around. It's exspensive but just the spend the money on this.
