I got this polishing pad to help clean up some powder coated metal items that I was laser engraving. Does a great job in smoothing out edges of the etched material and doesn't leave noticeable marks. I went with 400 grit to keep the polishing marks as small and lustrous as possible. Works great for my purposes! The polishing surface itself appears to be glued on to the bottom side of the soft pad. I would think that once worn our, the surface could be removed and some other type of abrasive surface could be applied. Haven't tried this yet, but it seems very doable.

I really don't think of my sanding implements as ever being pretty, but the pattern made by the sanding surface is really quite lovely, which made using this block to add the needed texture to my mulling slab a more fun experience. Usually I find this task tedious, I wanted to upgrade to a larger glass slab and it needs to have a bit of a toothy frosted texture to properly blend the pigment with the binder. In the past I just used my muller and some carborundum grit, but the experience was not fun, I wanted a better grip to really work to sanding and my muller didn't give me enough support. This block, however, was a fantastic grip, I was able to frost my big ol slab in like five minutes, and there is enough sanding surface left that I will be able to put it aside and use it again if I need to make another slab. I had a very specific need and it filled it perfectly.
