I've tested 3 lanterns:- this one from Amazon au (left) ($65ish)- medium one from BCF (middle) ($20ish)- little cheap one from Amazon (right)($15ish)All work as advertised, but with size and build quality comes a much more usable amount of light. This Dietz lights up all the usable space I need under my QLDer. Much better quality of glass that doesn't seem to get as sooty (could just be thats its bigger though). Easier to light as moving parts are better machined. This will usually light up space about 4 meters from the lantern at full blast. The middle is usable but is pretty dim beyond 1.5 meters. Probably passable for BBQ and camping, especially if you buy 2 or 3 of them. I wouldn't go any cheaper than this though. The little red one is cute and to my surprise actually works. Probably best as a decoration more than anything else. It works to at most 1 Meter. To be honest though if you're using kero lanterns youre doing so for their charm and aesthetic. This isn't a bad thing, it's just worth remembering if you're doing so to keep this in mind and get one you like the look of. Don't use them indoors or it will make your house smell like an airport hahaThe black and gold of the dietz looks super cool imo, especially considering dietz was the original patent holder of the hurricane design.I was originally inspired to try out hurricane lanterns from a YouTuber. I won't mention their name so it doesn't count as advertising but if you're here there's a good chance you already know who I'm talking about.

This item should be used for decorative purposes only. Although it looks great, It leaks like a sieve when you fill it with more than 2 hours worth of fuel. In fact, the seller warns against filling it more than 1/2 full. It's clear from some of the color in some of the crevices that it was originally blue, and was painted after market. The globe lifting lever for lighting and extinguishing does not operate smoothly, and it does not seem like it would last. The burner design is not that great. Still, it's pretty good looking lantern if you're not going to use it.
