The additional power translates into a bigger sound that emphasizes the resonant character of the instrument. The DiMarzio Model J pickup’s sensitivity and deep tone are also the perfect complement to fretless basses. Double-stop glissandos and delicate violin-style vibrato speak with a classic, woody voice simply by backing off slightly on the tone control. For an even more varied choice of tones, pair a bridge position DiMarzio Model J with a DiMarzio Model P pickup. The warm, fat tone of the DiMarzio Model P plus the tight punch of the DiMarzio Model J open up the sound of any bass.

Turned an Indo Squier into a hi-fi bass. Can do clean, grimy, Jaco and gets very close to a Sting Ray growl. Also, very easy to install. If you can solder, DIY, take your time. Take pics of the harness before you take it apart. Pay very close attention to string and pickup height when you install, you have to find the sweet spot, at which point, prepare to be amazed. Took me about a half hour, but time well spent. Two humbuckers on the JB platform is the bass sound I've been looking for. I personally dig the black magnets. Very stealth and clearly non-Fender. An amazing deal at this price.

These seem to be slightly taller than stock pickups, and I had to adjust them down as far as possible.

Excellent humbucking pickups for Fender Jazz Bass! They do change the tone quite a bit from what the original single coils sound like.I installed them on a new Fender Standard Jazz Bass MIM. The DP123 neck pickup solo sounds to my ears a whole lot like a fat, punchy Precision.Soloing the bridge pickup brought back that burpy Jaco Jazz bass tone but with more punch. Mixing both pickups with the neck volume slightly rolled down and the bridge volume full on was something completely different and very rich sounding.DiMarzio recommends 500k pots to keep the pickups from sounding too dark. I used the stock 250k pots, and wired the 4-conductors on each pickup in series.I also shielded the control and pickup cavities on my bass with copper tape and ground wires. The bass sounds amazing and is dead quiet between notes. If you want to add a touch of P Bass to your J Bass, get the DP123 Model J set.If you’re a J Bass purist, these aren’t your cup o tea. Try the Area J instead.

Beyond awesome if you don't mind the hum. Had to actually shield the magnets and pole pieces with copper foil tape to keep the noise down. Definitely not 60 cycle hum but noise in general.

I'm so impressed that these pickups have been made for over thirty years. I bought them to restore a thirty-three year old bass guitar that had these pickups originally installed. They sound great. My bass now has a new lease of life. Thankyou DiMarzio.

Installed these in my MIM Fender Jazz Bass; love the tone I get. Easy install; looked up YouTube video and all was well.

I love these pickups. I replaced the Fender Noiseless service in both my Deluxe Active Jazz Basses. Remember to simply solder together the black and white leads together on each pickup and then hook the remaining leads normally.
