  • Allows instant mounting and positioning along the length of any MINI or MIDI lathe made of iron
  • The hood has a 6-by-9-inch clear opening
  • It is ideal for small projects and pen crafting
  • Designed with a standard 4-inch male dust collector hose flange
  • Protects the turner from flying debris, or can swing viewing screen out of the way

This hood along with your D/C, eliminates nearly all of that fine turning dust that flies into your face and collects all over your lathe and stand. The 6" x 9" opening is ideal for spindle and small bowl turning. The hinged clear plastic face shield adjusts for optimal protection and dust collection, while allowing an unobstructed view of the workpiece. The included L bracket allows you to easily clamp the hood or you can use the magnetic plate to support the hood onto most lathes at any point along their cast iron bed. 4" fitting allows you to utilize standard collection hose or use an adapter to step down to your shop vac hose.

These work good but mounting them to the lathe with the magnets is not great. In my case the hood mount interferes with the tool support bracket. I ended up mounting it to a wood bracket that I clamp to the workbench. Once mounted and connected to a 4 inch dust collector it works well. It would not work connected to a shop vac though. Not enough air flow.

The brackets are strong and Assembly is easy. The Magnets will only support the collection hood. So if you use 4" Rigid or Flexible Duct, you will have to add support for the hose. I discarded the magnets and boltedit to my Lathe Rear Carriage. The operation of the hood seems to be good and it catches 60-70% of the dust.4 Stars because I was disappointed in the magnets.

Mine arrived with several blemishes in the plastic, likely a manufacturing issue and not a shipping one.The magnets are strong but could be stronger. As they are the magnets will not support any pulling from the weight of the 4 inch hose. I was able to remedy the problem with some zip ties to relieve the weight of the hose pulling down. This obviously mounts to the side of the lathe and MOSTLY stays out of the way for small projects like pens and small bowls. If you’re turning medium to large bowls it will be very difficult to use this without it getting in the way.UPDATE February 1, 2024: This has fallen multiple times because the magnets will not hold tightly and bumping it breaks the magnetic grip. The lid has finally separated from the main body. This has proven not to meet my needs and i’m moving on to other options. If you only turned small projects this might work well for you.

Made a couple of changes and it works great at catching the cuttings. Excellent for the money and would recommend it to everyone.

This product, hooked up to my dust collector, does a fine job of sucking up almost all of the chips, and virtually all of the dust. I find the magnets to be quite strong, and have had no problems with the hood moving or becoming detached even when I've bumped it. Although it's not obvious from the photographs, the flip-down portion of the hood is quite clear, and does not present a difficulty in seeing my workpiece. That's the good part. The bad part is that because of the attachment of the hood to the lathe bed, it makes positioning the tool rest a bit of a puzzle. It would be far better if the hood attached directly to the back of the banjo, or if the attachment points were laterally offset by about 6" from the location of the hood itself.

I received this a few months ago, but just got around to assembling it. Unfortunately it was missing the lid. All the hardware (pins, etc) for the lid was there, but not the actual lid. It's all now sitting back in the box, and it looks like I won't be able to use it. Not impressed.

With so many options I was really on the fence with this. Of course you have the negative reviews, but when it comes to a dust collection hood ALL the products have negative reviews. I figured this one best suited my needs. I do not regret the purchase, in fact, I am so happy I decided to write a review. First the negative: It does not grab big shavings. This is probably more a factor of my collection system than the hood itself. I am running a 6.6HP shop vac dedicated to this with a dust sleeve on the filter through a Dust Deputy cyclone. It does not have the power to suck big shavings. That said, it eats dust like nobody's business. This was my main concern anyway so I am happy. The magnets are strong enough to hold it solidly; yes, you can bump it and move it but come on...It is actually handy to be able to reposition it or even pull it off for certain operations. The clear body is great, my light shines right through it and the hinged shield is a godsend! I was tossed up between this and the Rockler unit, I am so glad I went with this. It works for what I do.

Works as listed-smaller than I thought. Using is limited and had to be clamped to lathe base. Will consider my own design in the future.

Works great with a cast iron lathe bed. Only concern is the packaging used for shipping. The metal bracket is shipped inside the hood so the hood interior was all scratched upon unpacking it. Aside from cosmetic damage, it works fine.
