My mini schnauzer has a skirt and furnishings that a brush alone won't get the knots out. This works great but it does take time.My only complaint is you can only hold the tool in one direction to demat and it makes it difficult to brush from certain angles.

Used twice and the handle and brush broke apart. The hair wasn't even that bad.

The build quality and materials seem fine. Just be realistic with your expectations. If you neglect your dog's coat like we do, this tool is not going to rescue you.We had neglected our aussiedoodle's coat for too long. I was hoping this would help but it didn't even make a dent. Perhaps my technique is wrong? The groomer had to cut her very short. So take my experience with a grain of salt. Again, our fault, but these tools wouldn't exist if it weren't for people like us. You wouldn't even be looking if you didn't struggle, too.

This is my first doodle and we have a Cavapoo. We’ve been brushing her regularly, but I didn’t notice mats forming in the hair on her ears as we let it grow longer. I noticed it was feeling fat and its wasn’t her ears and realized she got matted. We couldn’t cut it out I guess but she’s so adorable with longer ears so I gave this a try. It took about 30 minute on each ear but it combed out all the mats. I was also afraid it would be painful but she was unphased. I just gave her something time chew and I went to town. Image is all the hair and mats that came off of just one ear. Know I know better and will use this more proactively.

This de-matting tool is excellent! It features a warm wooden handle, and the thumb rest is perfectly positioned to prevent accidental cuts. I tried using it on my very curly-haired Bernedoodle, but she didn't want to sit still. We will probably need to do some additional training to help her get used to it. However, I really appreciate that it helps keep the mats out of her coat.

I should brush my poodle-mutt's coat every day. But life happens and somedays it just doesn't happen. This rake helps me recover from my lapses. It is especially great for the areas the tend to get matted--like her rump, her elbows and behind her ears.Sometimes I wish I could switch which side the "thumb" balancer is on. Maybe that's because I'm a lefty. Maybe that's because of the side my dog prefers to sit on. But if I rearrange my body, I can make it work. And I am grateful that the thumb rest makes it very clear which side of the comb is "sharp" and which side should be near my dog's skin.

This is a good tool for de-matting- I will agree there. It's not for everyday use on double-coated dogs. Although it's not nearly as harsh as the furminator, it does cut the fur- just the sound it makes while using is little disconcerting. I have 2 Shelties- one who loves to be brushed and one who hates it. They are both blowing their coats right now for the fall, so for those who go through this, you understand that I'll try ANY new tool that helps make molting season more tolerable. The biggest challenge is their butt fluff. It's the coarsest, and so it's prone to matting, plus everything gets stuck to the pantaloons. It did do a pretty decent job of working out the matting pretty easily, but there was definitely some fur-cutting happening. Also, the thumb rest is nice, but it's only helpful if you are right-handed. As a lefty, I struggled with getting myself into a position to be able to hold and comb properly. I ended up needing to stand directly above them to make it work. They neither one were happy with the process- even the one who likes being brushed, so I'm thinking it must either pull or the sound it makes going through their fur bothers them.I also work in rescue with Shelties and rough-coat collies. We see some really awful matting cases and will do all we can to avoid shaving, so this tool will be very helpful in those severe or extreme situations, but it's really not for everyday use IMO.

I normally use the Furminator for my dog's matted fur but while it is easy to use, it seems pretty painful. It's just like when we use a brush to undo a knot in our hair. With the Furminator, it would do the job, but the shorter bristles made it feel like I was just pulling full knots out at time when trying to brush them out. I do like this brush and rake because the comb is longer and makes me feel like I'm getting to the bottom of the matted fur. The combs teeth has a knifelike edge to cut out the matted fur so its not like I'm just yanking at the fur. There is even a thumb hold on the comb to ensure you have full control over the comb. I think this is definitely a handy tool. It's still obviously not painless, but better than what I was using before.
