I had an accident and my helm let loose and bent the steering pump shaft. This product was an exact replacement and worked well. Coincidentally, it 'fixed' a slight annoying fluid leak on the old pump.

I purchased this helm to replace the original on my 2008 boat that developed a bad seal. This new on works fine and my purchase went smoothly. I hope this one remains trouble-free.

the part that you attach your steering wheel should be made of stainless steel and not aluminum. I had a problem with my old seastar helm with salt water corrosion. that eat thru the treads

This helm unit replaces an old Seastar unit that failed after 13 years of service in a saltwater environment. It is an exact replacement and the boat steers smoothly once more. Also had to replace the cylinder as metal shavings had destroyed it. I didn't buy the Seastar hydraulic fluid but found a qualified substitute for $10/qt cheaper. Shame on you Seastar!

When my helm went down on my 1986 Mako I figured it was going to cost a fortune and based on preliminary estimates, it was.I thought, what the heck, Amazon has never let me down before. NOT THIS TIME EITHER. Saved me $300.00 and it is same brand name as original quote from mechanic.
