If you look closely at the picture you can see that what looks like a hinge on the cap is actually just a press on cover. There is no hinge or hinge clip or anything to positively lock the cap onto the main body. The one I received doesn't snap on. It just fits on like a lose Tupperwear cover. It falls right off. To send back the defective part (which is sacrificial) you have to also destroy the retainer clips (which are sold seperately AND also sacrificial). I am so dissapointed. I really don't want to spend an hour taking the old defective part out and not having a spare tire until I can get a credit and order from a different manufacturer. Item is garbage and shouldn't even be for sale. I see they also sell the replacement cover for $16.18 for just such occasions. Rip off!

Fit the bumper hole perfectly. BUT, for some odd reason they did not include the pretty much one-time-use clip for it. :(Checked at GM, and the clip (yes, the flat metal simple thing) is almost as much as the Dorman part itself! Beware. And try to save your old one.

Its thick plastic, not as thick as the original, but it still nicely fit my GMC Sierra 2009 truck. Make sure to drill a small drain hole in bottom of this part (just like the original has a drain hole for water that may get in the tube).

The part is a direct replacement for the OEM part at a lower price. It is identical as far as I can tell. As others have noted and per the shop manual, it is a sacrificial part (one time install) and should be sold as a set with the metal retainer clip that mounts on the rear of the metal (sub) bumper, which in itself is a sacrificial part. So if you're replacing your bumper skin AND sub bumper (as I had to due to rust), you'll need the retainer too.For me, installation was a bear, but then again I'm getting "old" and I'm not as strong as I used to be. I'm normally pretty handy doing truck repairs, etc. but this one had me scratching my head. I can think of 101 better ways GM could have designed this part but I lost sleep trying to think of even one worse way.I finally resorted to making a temporary "clamp" out of two pieces of 1 x 3"s (one on the external side of the bumper where your plate would be and one on the underside of the bumper) and a bolt to compress and hold this part in place while beating on a flat blade screwdriver to snap the retainer ring into place on the rear side. I tried about 10 other methods first with no luck. Refer to photo for my "tool" that I made...hopefully it will make your life easier.
