Does not fit if you cut into the box through the glove box, you have to disassemble the dash with this one

The aluminum sleeve reinforcement was too big in diameter to fit. I had to remove the aluminum sleeve and reduce the overall outside diameter. I did this by mounting the sleeve on a drill and with a file and sandpaper removed several thousandths of an inch. Only then did the door fit into the pocket.I expected better from Dorman.

You need to remove the blend door motor below so you can make the lower hole slightly bigger so the new door can open and close without any binding. It's not that difficult to replace. There are many YouTube videos on this topic. It was fun to do actually. I washed and cleaned all the plastic parts including all fresh air vents

Replacing this on my 98 F150 is a miserable, 8 hour job. Removing the complete dashboard (partially) is required. There are lots of corners that can be cut but there is simply no way to make this project quick or easy especially when something like 100 screws and bolts are involved. Watch online videos before you do it. My only complaint is the metal sleeve which is there to reinforce the lower pivot. If you install it as it comes it may last longer but you'll need to ream out the hole it goes into. The original door lasted 200K miles without this bushing and I figured that the truck will be in the scrap yard by the time this one fails so I removed the bushing. 6 months later, it's still working fine. Also, You're crazy if you dont replace the actuator motor that moves this thing. I also changed the heater core while I was there. Altogether, only about $70 gave me hot and cold air again but doing the job in 20 degree weather totally sucked.

IT DOESN'T @#*$^! FIT – in spite of the statement "Direct replacement for a proper fit every time!".It looks like it should, it really does, and it's very close – BUT IT DOESN'T. The metal sleeve at the bottom is too wide, it will go about halfway in and then it stops. Not only that, but the stops for the door swivel range ARE WRONG. I used a knife to cut an additional 3/16" out to make it match the factory original.I finally made it work by removing the metal sleeve, mentioned elsewhere in these comments. (Thank you!) Of course, nothing on the Dorman website or elsewhere on the web. I did not want to try and widen the hole it fits into, which you would have to do by hand with sandpaper or a knife, rotating it around the actuator that pokes up through the hole and very difficult to get at.Once I removed the sleeve and cut out the additional material as described above, it popped right in (Sigh – What a PITA!) and I was then able to close up the plenum.Fun times.

Had to enlarge hole in heater box and sand the tip some to fit. But with a little work worked well and better than OEM part.

I replaced the heater core in my 2001 F-150, and decided to replace this before it broke, after reading about other guys having this issue. A much nicer part than stock, and went in with no issues at all. Great price, excellent part.
