My son had cross threaded his crank while installing new pedals. Considering a bike shop repair cost of $80-$120, I decided chasing the threads would be a more cost effective option. We purchased this tap and chased the threads. It worked perfectly! He was able to learn how to repair damaged threads, and gain confidence in his own mechanical skills.

We bought this tap along with a Vermont American tap, and used them side by side on the same nylon materials.The Vermont American tap, at 1/3-1/2 the price, is a decent economy-quality tap which will probably work fine for the occasional user.If you are a professional, you will want a higher quality tap like this one. This tap cuts cleaner and easier, which makes the work go a lot faster if you have a lot of tapping to do.
