The sharpener doesn't come with instructions, but the assembly is pretty intuitive. It is important to make sure that the bit holder goes on flat and stays flush when tightened down, otherwise not only will the angle of the grind be affected, but the holder may come into contact with the cutting disk and become damaged.I have never used one of these before and don't really know what is the proper way to handle it. Again going by intuition, I held the grinder with my non-dominant hand, and fed the bit into its corresponding hole using my dominant hand, in order to maximize touch. Since the bit holder is plastic and quite thick, the bit doesn't really glide through the hole, and gives very little tactile feedback in terms of how deep it is until contact is made and sparks fly. As it's not possible to see the bit making contact with the cutting disk from a safe angle and distance, every contact comes as a surprise (to a new user at least); which is a little disconcerting. I'm subtracting a star for this, fully recognizant of the fact that it may not be fair.The maker thoughtfully placed the bit holes at different distances from the center of the disk, so sharpening bits of different sizes should result in a relatively even wear of the disk. However, if you sharpen mainly bits of a certain size, you will eventually create a band of weakness on the disk, which may demand even more careful handling.The bit does come out sharp however, after just one or two sparky passes, so you will probably need to sharpen a whole tray of high speed steel bits before disk wear becomes an issue.
