These little egg cubers have been a surprise hit around here. The grandkids love making square eggs, and I’ll admit, it’s oddly satisfying to slice one up and see perfect little squares instead of the usual wobbly rounds. We’ve been going through more hard-boiled eggs than usual, which works out fine since the chickens are keeping us well supplied. I keep a big salad bar going for dinner, lots of toppings, greens, and enough prepped to stretch across a few nights. I’ve always added chopped eggs, but now I add a few square ones too, sliced up nice and thin. They’re always the first to disappear. The molds are easy to use. Just peel the eggs while they’re still warm, pop them in the molds, and let them chill in the fridge. The shape holds up well, and cleanup’s simple. These little gadgets are fun to use, useful in meals, and apparently the secret to getting the kids to eat more salad. Who knew?

I buy hardboiled eggs (pre-boiled) at my big box store. They are not typically 100% of uniform size. If I had to guess I'd say they were medium sized eggs. They are too small to work in this egg cube. I gave it a try and only one of the eggs was cubed. The problem is the plunger doesn't go down quite far enough for smaller eggs. That said I am supremely confident that if you boil your own eggs this will work perfectly. I must say that when the one successful egg came out of the mold, well, I was more than a little delighted. Please also know the cube is easy to clean by hand, so there is no need to put it in a dishwasher. So, if you want to take your plating game to the next level this will fit the bill. I'm going to use it in my large salads when I have dinner parties and I'm sure it's going to draw comments and smiles.

I have to admit, I was skeptical at first. Why do my eggs need to be cubed??They were fine in the dishwasher.I used a freshly boiled egg that had been shocked in an ice bath for a few minutes. The instructions were simple to follow and the egg came out with a new shape. The only issue was that the egg seemed a bit small for the space in the shaper and came out with rounded edges as opposed to the egg in the product photos. I speculate that this might work better with XL eggs. The kids were impressed anyway, which was the main point. Would recommend.

This review is for the Eggssentials Egg Cuber Square Egg Mold (Size - Pack of 3). I received a free taxable sample of these egg molds in my search for a way to easily prepare cubed eggs. The egg molds each weigh 91.1 grams and are made out of a lightweight transparent plastic with approximately general dimensions of 3 ⅝” x 2 ⅝” x 2 ⅝”. There are four components to each egg mold: main body; base square plate; press; and screw cap. The main body weighs 52.5 grams and has a 1 ⅞” square base for the 2 ⅜” rectangular block on top of which sits a threaded 1 ¼” x 2 ⅝” diameter threaded section. The 1 ½” x 1 ½” x ⅛” base plate fits neatly at the base of the main body and conveniently helps to push the egg out after the 1 ½” x 1 ½” x 1 ¼” press has been applied and the 2 ⅝” diameter x 1” screw cap has been screwed on. Overall quality and workmanship are okay as the plastic feels it will easily crack if dropped and there are a few visible stress marks and imperfections.I was prepared for making a cubed egg to be a fairly laborious and skill intensive process but using this egg mold made it much easier than expected. It was fairly straightforward to first prepare a hardboiled egg, insert the base plate into the main body, insert the egg, place the press over the egg, and then screw on the screw cap. It was actually cool to see the egg in the transparent egg mold. After leaving the egg mold in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, it was easy to unscrew the cap and then push the egg out of the main body by pushing up on the base plate through a square opening in the base of the main body. The resulting egg is about 1 ¼” tall with a 1 ½” square base and holds its shape pretty well even after cutting it across. Note that the yolk was off center, but I’m not sure if using another technique to cook the egg into a square would result in a perfectly centered yolk. All in all, this is a decent quality egg mold that is effective at shaping hard boiled eggs into cubes. I recommend this as a good option to easily create cube-shaped eggs you can use for bento boxes and to add an interesting angle to your hard-boiled eggs.

These are actually quite cool. I wasn’t sure if I’d actually use them, but now I find myself boiling more and more eggs with the kids to make these cool, squared eggs. It’s hilarious how many people have asked me how I’ve made squared deviled eggs. Definitely recommend these if you’re looking for some cool square-shaped eggs.

The quality of the plastic is pretty good for these egg shapes and it is so simple to use them. I thought at first, why so many pieces? But every piece makes sense when making a square egg. They even thought to make a removable bottom to help push the egg out when it has formed. Why do I need a square egg? It just makes me feel special and fancy. OK?!! I can cut even slices, they will make more uniform cubed pieces and make over the top deviled eggs. I've never been more excited to eat a boiled egg!
