The square hole in the end does its job but that’s not why I bought the tool. The U shape end isn’t wide enough to fit around a standard size strainer and even if it was the cutouts aren’t big enough for the bolt. Maybe if you had particularly small strainers it would work. I’ll be returning.

Doesn't fit over the wire tensioners I have. Too narrow, need to spread it somehow.

While the product was very well made, I did return it. Not due to quality at, but rather the high price. After checking my local TSC farm store, I found the had the product; in stock and MUCH CHEAPER price. The quality and strength and craftsmanship of the one from TSC, is equal to if not exceeding that of the one purchased here. My lesson learned, chk more places before buying such an item.
