For less than 5 bucks, it's all you need to keep as an emergency whistle in your backpacking bag or on a long hike. They have the potential to break because they are obviously plastic, but they do work if you aren't out of breath.

I think my expectation was that these would be like the super loud metal gym coach whistles. I wouldn't say they are quite that loud, but there is a good volume. The high visibility orange is nice and I consider these a smart accessory when hiking or going on outdoor adventures. By being all plastic, there is nothing inside to rust and they should be easy to clean. They seem durable. I don't know what would happen if a heavy person stepped on one with a boot, but I wouldn't be surprised if the whistle would still work.
