The EMG Retro Active Hot 70 set utilizes ceramic magnets in the bridge and alnico 5 in the neck producing high output Van Halen and ZZ top like tone of the late 70’s. This traditional open coil design set has a vintage look that players love. I put these pickups in a friends guitar I was restoring. WOW! They definitely have a unique sound to them. I love the sound, and I think I turned my friend into an active pickup lover. He fought it for a week but as he played it more and more they grew on him. Let’s just say he is a very satisfied recipient of these pickups.

I bought these to replace a Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient set in my Ec1000. Actually I was a little hesitant but figured I could always return them since they are Solderless. I'm glad I took the chance. They don't really have the cocked wah sound of the 81 which is great for metal but kinda not my favorite for rolling volume down to get more classic rock. These do both. The Nazgul/Sentient set is good also just wanted something a little different for this specific guitar and these Emgs fit the bill.

Mine came with my c o r t X300 Guitar Factory stock I've played guitar for over 45 years I've never been able to achieve the professional sound to stand out in any situation and prove my worth as a guitar player now I can smoke you!

Very easy to install, I put them on a PRS SE and I had no issues in terms of space for the battery of for wiring. I only had to buy an emg 3way switch (USD 30) to avoid soldering to the original switch.In terms of sound, I admit that these active pickups will never sound as passive, but the sound is very close, in fact closer than expected... and noiseless!!!. Compared to PRS SE original pickups, a entire world of improvement...
