I have two Epever charge controllers. 40 amp and 20 amp in use and one 20 amp as a spare just in case. One of my 20 amp controllers came with a bad USB/RS-485 port. Had to contact the sellers which are in China. Took some time, but they are sending a replacement module under warranty. That's really great of them! It took time to work via messages thru Amazon to the folks in China. Different time zone makes it time consuming. All said and done, the problem is on the way to resolution and they provided a way to purchase additional modules which I wanted since they are a key piece to my solar charge controllers. I use the Epever e-box to slow Bluetooth connection from my android phone to program the finer details into the controller. I can tell you that if the module interface fails, it causes many problems trying to program or un-program the controller. But, when all is good, these controllers work 24/7 very well.

After a month no complaints. Just be aware the terminal screws for cables are chincey and take great care anytime your using them and the set up instructions for a minimally intuitive pensioner like me from Chinese to English translation are minimally helpful and could be improved.

I was very pleased to see an “addition to the manual” page that outlined how to use the new LifePO4 battery settings (no longer have to use the “user” setting or enter a bunch of details. I’m glad they’re updating the firmware.

I recently installed this solar charge controller in our off-grid cabin. I originally installed the EPEVER Triron 4210N, which is also a very nice 40A charge controller, and it worked well. However, two factors lead me to return that one and install the XTRA4415N instead - Voltage limit for the solar array (100V vs 150V) and battery compatibility (12/24V vs 12/24/48V). While I do still currently plan to use a 24V battery bank, battery prices are changing all the time, so maybe 48V will become a better choice in the future. We are sun-challenged for much of the year, and our available array location has a fair bit of shading, regardless, so I have discovered that it's important to have as many volts coming from the panels as possible. Using 250W panels, the XTRA4415N will allows to use three panels in series, whereas the 4210N would only allow two. Given the huge voltage lack on cloudy days, that could be the difference between charging the batteries and not charging at all. This unit has an enormous amount of configurable parameters, the majority of which I probably won't use, but it's nice that they're available. It's fairly uncommon to get 150V max PV input on a SCC in this price range, and also not that common to have 48V battery support. Another feature, which I didn't know about until I read the manual, is that you can 'overpanel' the SCC by roughly 50%. This is a huge bonus for our 6+ months of cloudiness. If you're not familiar, 'overpaneling' is using a PV array size larger than would normally be expected based on the rated current of the SCC. In this case, it's 40A, so for example, if you were using a 24V battery, 40A x 24V = 960W. However, this unit allows you up to 1560W solar array power for a 24V battery, which is exceptional. 12V and 48V systems likewise get a proportional boost. You DO have to stay under the maximum voltage input limit (150V maximum, 138V at 25C) and the 40A current limit, but that's easy to do in both cases. Other controllers allow similar overpaneling, but almost always at a much higher price (and some much more expensive ones don't allow it at all). This SCC supports up to 3120W at 48V, which is huge for the price point. Now keep in mind that the unit will still only charge your battery with at most the rated current (40A) times your battery bank voltage, regardless of how much PV is actually available. So are still limited in that regard. But in cloudy climates like ours, it means you can size your array more properly for cloudy weather, and not have to worry about disconnecting half the panels in the summer. The only really issues I have with this controller are minor. I wish the display showed more information all at once, vs rotating through the various PV/Battery/Load parameters. You can adjust the rotation speed, though, which is nice. I also found some of the setup procedures in the manual to work not as described. For example, it says push a certain button to enter the parameter adjustment menu, except it actually only works by pressing a different button. Once you're into the adjustment menus, it's fairly intuitive. This is using the controls on the main unit - I haven't yet tried making adjustments with the MT-50 remote display - maybe it's easier.Note, this unit comes with a temperature sensor (at least my purchase did), but not the wire for the sensor. You can plug it into the bottom of the SCC, but if you need to monitor the temperature of your actual battery bank, say in a different location or sealed box, you'll need to buy the wire. All in all, I find this a very flexible and expandable SCC for the money, and it seems solidly built, with a large heatsink on the back and good heft.

I have two similar Epever charge chargers, one on the sailboat, and one still at home that I am playing with.I found the initial setup to be very easy, and the controller seems to be reliably doing what it is supposed to do. I highly recommend to get at least the MT-50 display. My favorite feature is the serial interface, which allows things like the Epever Elog, Ebox-BLE bluetooth, Ebox Wifi, MT-50 display, and laptop to be connected. Quick note on these devices:MT-50: I like it. It works reliably, has a nice display, and makes it pretty easy to program your controller.Elog: I like it. It logs your data while allowing other devices to read data from the controller. Data can be downloaded for use in spreadsheets or other programs. This is especially nice if you controller is in a remote location.Ebox-BLE: Allows your phone to connect with the free Epever app. Decent.Ebox-Wifi: For use with same app as bluetooth. You need to connect your device (phone/tablet) to it directly so in most cases you can't also be connected to your home network with your device. Despite this down side, it is useful if you don't have bluetooth, want to use your bluetooth for other things, or don't have a wifi network you need to stay connected to (might be the case in an rv/boat - elog will still capture your data while you’re not connectd). If you want to delve a bit, this can be used as a serial-to-tcp interface, but the app will not work in this mode, and there are probably better ways of doing this. But the best part about the serial interface is that Epever kept it simple and standard. Because of this, things work reliably and it is simple for anyone to set up the controller with the MT-50 or app. Equally important, for those who are interested in real-time monitoring and statistics, it is easy to read to data from the controller to do with want you want. Pretty much everyone has their own needs with regard to what they are interested in monitoring, and how they want it displayed, so being able to read data from the controller is a mandatory feature. In my case, I don't have anywhere to place my solar panels to get full sun, but my batteries are critical because they run my bilge pump. Even with partial sun, the controller works very well to keep my batteries charged, and the serial interface allows me to monitor what is going on in a way that suits my needs.
