This hood is an exact OEM replacement for the original hood on my Canon EF 100-400mm Ver. ll lens at a reasonable price.
The Breakdown

How hard could it possibly be to make a copy of a lens hood? That’s the question I had going through my mind while reviewing this aftermarket hood from brand 143 sold by Licavuy. They had probably many genuine examples to follow in engineering this clone so you’re left scratching your head why they made certain manufacturing decisions. An example would be why they left off the flocking inside the barrel when the whole point of a lens hood is to reduce glare. Instead of having stray light diffusion, they painted the inside in a satin matte finish. The mismatched hue to the Canon ‘white’ with their tofu-dreg ivory color is an obvious goof but not a big concern for me though it could be for some others. Personally I rate the shoddy paint job higher on the aggravation list. An additional inconvenience is how awkwardly difficult the filter access opening door works; it literally feels like someone stuck some bubblegum inside the rails. Perhaps most bothersome of all is the binding of the hood’s bayonet engagement as the tolerance is so tight that it’s a struggle to securely force it to ‘click’ in place, rendering the release button useless as a result.I know they can do a better effort than this, because after all, it’s just reverse-engineering an existing product and they’re great at that.
