Excellent eye piece!!! It's expensive but the quality is simply amazing. Having 100 degree field of view is eye opening. It's very heavy (heavier than ES 9mm), so one has to be careful in handling. I use it with my NexStar 8 SE and works perfectly.

In the world of 3" eyepieces, there is nothing else to compare to. For wide field viewing, this is the most comfortable and pleasant eyepiece to date. It's my favorite eyepiece with the 120 degree 9mm ES as my very close second. Both are monsters and fun to look through and just look at. The 30mm is the only eyepiece that looks well proportioned on a large scope. See pic with 30mm on TEC200FL.

Normally I’m hesitant to recommend an eyepiece that was manufactured in China, but this is an exception for both portable telescopes and observatories. Almost as corrected as the 21 Ethos, at f/8 in a 6” APO it is just about as wide as you can get, especially with a quality reducer. In a f/7 4” triplet it struggles without an additional correcting element to minimize field curvature. Other than that in a large refractor this is an excellent rich field eyepiece. In a small portable refractor it’s super wide field is superb. At f/15 it is certain to produce nice wide crisp views at a 7” aperture. I had to get a custom machined 3” visual back to accommodate the diagonal in my focusers. If you got in on the half off sale consider yourself lucky. For the price of what would have been just this eyepiece you can get the diagonal and the eyepiece. The new ES diagonal has way better machined threads and is way lighter than any 3” diagonal you will ever find. I would avoid using this with small aperture import refractors unless it is a TAK, Japan or Russian glass APM refractors CFF etc. This eyepiece will shine in a quality refractor, especially American made APOs.

Bought this 2" 5.5mm 100 degree AFOV eyepiece for my legacy C8. The moon was viewed at X370. It is like being in orbit around the moon. The wide field combined with high magnification is like looking through the window of a spacecraft. The best money I ever spent.

This eyepiece is so magnificent it can make your 80mm refractor seem like it’s 100mm or higher, and better yet, the field of view! It’s expensive and worth every penny. I can see the trapezium in the Orion Nebula and I can still see the whole neighborhood around it. I got the 5.5 mm and I still turn to this one more often. It’s the sweet spot. Spend your money here to reach the nebulae and to observe them with clarity. A good complement for this is the Orion planetary 2” set of 3.

This eyepiece is staggeringly good. The field of view seems impossible, but it is really that wide. The center-to-edge focus and uniformity is perfect, and there no visible artifacts or coma at all. You could spend LOTS more for a lesser eyepiece.

My journal pretty much tells why I gave this 5 Stars: Tonight I was splitting stars in Gemini at a the end of a successful Star Party. Cheers broke out from the group of stargazers gathered around my telescope when I successfully split Castor to clearly reveal a relatively young pair of stars while using my new ES 9mm 100* eyepiece. Amazing optics, right? Cool that Castor is a rare sextenary star system, like SIX suns orbiting each other every 440 years! Highlight of the evening? JUPITER! Glorious and enormous views of the Jovian planet and four of its moons using the same eyepiece. Crisp image, sphere shaped, could easily see the bands and ovals. Red spot was behind planet tonight. Image was so bright I almost had to add a moon filter to my eyepiece. It was seriously sooo magnificent. What a night.

I love this eye piece. I had to use a par focal ring to get it to work right in my scope. But the views are amazing. I love not having to worry about moisture problems or fogging up.
