My old 612 took a dump after about 10 years of service. So I needed a new one. This company Reiderelectronics sent a re-manufactured box that was packaged just like a new one. The box also had a new remote, batteries, RCA cable, HDMI Cable, owners manual and the separator/splitter needed to record more than 1 show at a time. it arrived in just a few days faster than I thought it would. The whole thing was painless.Tip when you get your receiver go to your computer and punch in the Smart Card and Receiver numbers (I used Word) then when the box tells you to call dish go to Dish.com log into your account and go to Equipment in the lower right corner click on Chat and tell them you have a new box you want to activate when they ask for your receiver info copy and paste the numbers into the chat. This will save the trouble of trying to repeat all those long numbers over the phone. The whole process took me less than 2 minutes to complete...Dish was Great and Reiderelectronics product appears to have exceeded my expectations...I suppose Amazon deserves some credit also...

I got a brand new Dish network VIP 612 HD-DVR off eBay from a seller, Factory sealed, Vacuumed sealed in an anti-static bag. and It won't work!!Not Shure how old it is? Receiver Serial Number: R5EWAU05158A Took the cover off the receiver, Checked the ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORSand they were bulged up.(NO GOOD) so I will have to change out 5- 1200UF 6.3V ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS. and 4- 820uf 6.3v Electrolytic Capacitors JUST to make it work!! I have one running now on the main TV.(Works great when the Hard drive is unplugged) So then when the one from eBay didn't work I bought one off Amazon.(Be in here Dec. 24th) So I will have 3 receivers JUST to get something going. So if you have a Receiver that won't work more than likely YOU HAVE BAD CAPS!! After I get my two receivers that don't work rebuilt.(one wont record and one won't even com on!) I will have 2 backups. Right now I cant record NOTHING and still have the DVR FEE that I am paying!! Good receiver when it works?

We really wanted this for our RV, we are full timers and thought this would be a great addition for our DISH system. We have a rooftop mounted KINGDOME satellite system, and it would not work with the 612 dvr, it works with the standard 311 receiver, but not the 612 dvr receiver. So we had to return the unit, but it was not because of the unit, it would just not work for our situation.

I agree completely with the reviewer who said this thing is WAY too noisy. It is hot and the fan runs and runs and runs and runs. We also had trouble with it freezing up and having to be rebooted.

The only bad thing I have to say, is that the unit shuts off after long periods of inactivity. So if you are into a certain channel and what it for more that 4 hours it turns itself off. Other than that the unit is great set up to recorder and has not missed a show yet, recording more than one item at the same time as well.Thanks to DVR.
