While this seems to be a good product, it's not as user-friendly as advertised. As soon as I opened the box, I tested it out in my CRV. When I plugged it into the outlet, it turned on immediately. The picture was clear and it all looked good. However, the issue came with the wire. Since this is a WIRED camera, the wire has to go from the display (front of the car) to the camera (near the license plate in the back). There's no simple way to run the wire through the car so that it's hidden; if you just run it through the car, the wire is visible, and will have to be on the outside of the trunk and get smashed every time you close it. At first, I thought I had mis-read the instructions (which to be honest, the instructions in the box were completely useless), so I came back to the listing to see what I had missed. It seems like everyone else says they simply plug it in and use it, and the info in the listing says pretty much the same thing. To summarize, it works, the display is good, but it's unusable as advertised as there's no way for me as a non-mechanic to install it. If you can figure out how to run the wire through the car, or hire someone to install it, it seems like a great option but for the average person, I cannot recommend.

Out of the box, it seems like a very well-made unit. Comes with the camera and license plate mount bracket for easy installation, monitor with 12v cigarette-lighter plug and suction-cup mount, and nearly 23 feet of extension cable for the camera (which is the standard tiny 4-pin connector used by most aftermarket backup cameras). To test it out, I hooked it up in a matter of seconds, and had live video on the monitor just like it should be. The hardest part of installation will be routing the cable, and even that isn't going to be very difficult with the extension cable allowing the wire to be routed through the tiniest of holes. You could have this up and running in about 5 minutes, or you could have a professional-quality install with the cable hidden and routed under the vehicle in only about 30 minutes. I'd rate difficulty as being 2 out of 5 wrenches, the kind of install that nearly anyone can do in their driveway.Even with the protective film still in place, the video was crystal clear. The attached photo doesn't do justice to how nice the picture quality is because of the reflections that my phone camera kept picking up. The three-button controls on the back of the monitor are intuitive, allowing you to not only adjust the picture quality, you can also adjust the size and location of the "guide lines" (or turn them off entirely). The suction-cup mount is one of those that has a sticky glue, an almost gel-like substance applied to it. While that's not my personal preference, I'm sure it will hold almost indefinitely in a semi-permanent installation. On a windshield, I don't imagine it would ever come off by itself, and with that gel-glue, it would probably stick pretty well to a dashboard (even a textured one). If sticky-gel isn't your thing, the mount uses one of those fairly universal 0.675" / 17mm balls on the end, so you could probably switch it out for a non-sticky suction cup if you wanted. The unit powers up in between 2-3 seconds when power is applied, so it wouldn't be terribly hard to have a dedicated 12v power plug wired up to your backup light circuit to make it a nearly automatic setup. Or you could just plug it in to a keyed-power cigarette lighter, and have a supplemental camera feed from behind you. That would be great for when towing a trailer, or if you had a hitch-mounted cargo carrier or bike rack you wanted to keep an eye on. Be aware that if your cigarette lighter says on when the key is off, you're going to need to manually switch it off, as the manual warns it can draw down your battery over a longer period of time.It should also be of note that in today's world of cameras all over vehicles, this could easily be mounted in a vehicle grille for enhanced frontal awareness. The video can be reversed via the menu, so there's no problem with the video being "backwards". If you're into rock crawling, this would be VERY handy to mount under the vehicle to be able to see where obstacles are in relation to your undercarriage. If you mounted this near the rear of the vehicle facing forward, the camera would probably do a great job of replacing your spotter. For a semi-permanent install, this is a great little camera setup. If you're looking for something to move around to different vehicles, the gel suction cup may be an issue for you. But for the price, it seems like a very decent value.

I installed this back up camera in my Yamaha Wolverine SxS. It was easy to install but I wasn’t sure how I was going to mount the screen. More my fault than the manufacturers though. I didn’t really think it through since the wires were running from the camera but I ended up running them through the middle console from between the skid plate and made my own bracket for the monitor that I could attach to one of the open rocker panels on the dash. The camera is pretty decent for the money and the display monitor is great. During the day I can see really well but at night it’s a little grainy. For what it is and for the money it works a lot better than I expected and really helps with backing up in tight places when I can’t see what’s behind me. I’m going to try and make a shield for the camera lense since it’s exposed to the dirt, mud and debris. It gets muddy fast the way it’s mounted but there’s not a lot of options of where I could mount it on my SxS especially with the exhaust shield. If you’re looking for an inexpensive option I would recommend this model.

I like the way the camera mounts with tabs for the license plate bolts, that it can go behind or in front of the license plate and that it comes with everything to install it.I wish it were a wireless setup because running the wires from the back of an SUV with a swing open door is a bit tricky. The monitor is truly on the small side and it might be a bit hard to see at times due to the small screen size.

Super easy to install and works right out of the box. The image is sharp, even at night thanks to the IR night vision. The wide 150° angle gives a clear view of everything behind, and the 4.3” screen is just the right size.
