My dad has had his boat for many years, and it’s been through a lot. The hull was covered in scratches, chips, and small cracks, making the whole thing look old and worn out. I once suggested he consider replacing it, but he smiled and said, “All it needs is a little fixing.” So I bought this fiberglass repair kit to try and fix it. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Mixing the gel and adding the tint took a bit of patience, but I was able to match the color pretty closely. Applying it was simple, and after curing and sanding, the results were better than I expected. The repaired areas blend in nicely and feel solid to the touch. This worked well to repair a gelcoat chip. When adding colors, a TINY bit goes a long way, so keep that in mind. I mixed the patch, added colors, applied it and covered with a piece of shiny plastic overnight. Once cured. I used a razor blade to shave down the patch, then polished the area. It blends in way better than I thought it would.

Easy to mix and does harden as it should but it is translucent if you don’t use a lot of color tint. If you grind down to the fiberglass you will see the spot through the dried repair. I don’t recommend it. Go with quality white gel coat and tint as required. Or be sure and coat the base of the repair with white prior to applying the finish coat. I created a fairly close color match but you could see through it to the fiberglass when dried.
