FAQ for UTWS5 Bluetooth Amplifier

Q1:What kind of the earphones model in the market can be compatibled with UTWS5?

(1)For FiiO's brand:

If you chosed the 0.78mm 2pins version, then it compatible with all of our earphones also with 2 pins connector(for example: FiiO FD1/FH1S/EA3/EA1/JH3 etc...)

If you chosed the mmcx connector version, then it compatible with all of our earphones also with mmcx connector(like FiiO FD7/FD5/FD3PRO/FD3/FH9/FH7/FH5SPRO/FH5S/FH3/FA9/FA7S/FA7/FA1 etc...)

(2)For other brands:

First and most importantly, you need to confirm your earphone whether it is standard mmcx connector or 0.78mm 2 pins connector(depends on what connector of UTWS5 you had chosed), if it is standard mmcx connector or standard 0.78mm 2 pins connector, it should be compatible with our UTWS5. And you could ask the seller who you had bought or confirmed it by yourself, or before you placed the order you also could send message to us.

Q2:What can be done if the left and the right ear units are disconnected? And how to clear pairing?

(1) If there is only one channel that can be connected while the other is disconnected, it is suggested to clear pairing.

(2) How to clear pairing:

Keep the ear hooks inside the charging case. After opening the case lid, hold the multifunction button of the case for 12s. The ear hook will first turn off and then turn on when the left and right ear hooks will complete the pairing automatically. the middle of the indicator light flashing alternately in red and white means the UTWS5 is in pairing mode.

Q3:What shall be noted when we we use wirless charging?

When using wireless charging, try to place the UTWS5 charging case in the middle of the charging base. Support mobile phone reverse charging, the maximum power is 5W;

Wireless charging that supports Qi wireless charging protocol can charge the charging case of UTWS5.

Q4:What are the differences between TWM, TWS+ and TWS?

(1)Qualcomm's third-gen TWS Mirroring as utilized on the UTWS5 effectively reduces latency and instability for a better experience. Unlike TWS+, TWS Mirroring allows for seamless switching between being connected to the main and secondary ear units. This allows for a greater compatibility with various Bluetooth devices, all with lower latency and more reliable connections.

(2)Why does UTWS5 not distinguish primary and secondary eaphone when connecting to the mobile phone?

UTWS5 adopts TWM technology so that only the primary ear hook is shown connected to the mobile phone, while the secondary ear hook is automatically connected as a monitor, and the earphones connect to the mobile phone can be more smoothly. The ear hooks are able to seamlessly switch between the primary and secondary roles according to the usage environment. And you don't need to reconnect, which is convenient for single-ear usage and other scenarios.

Q5:What can be done if the UTWS5 cannot be powered on with an unresponsive indicator light?

For the first time use, please check whether the paster on the metal contact has been ripped off. Or whether the metal contacts are covered with dirt.

If it is not used for the first time, there is no response for the charging case and the indicator light keeps off, please follow the below steps.

1.Make sure both the charging case and earhooks have enough power. The indicator light will be on when the charging case is opened and when the earhooks is turned on. If not, charge the device in time.

2.Under normal circumstances, when the earhook is placed and charged in the charging case, the indicator light will be on. If it does not light up, earhook maybe run out of power. If the battery is broken, it needs to be sent back and repaired. Or it may be that the metal contacts are covered with dirt. At this time, it is recommended to use alcohol pads to wipe off the dirt on the contacts.

3. In normal use, it's suggested using alcohol pads to keep the metal contacts clean.

4.Clear repairing

Q6:How to connect the UTWS5 to Bluetooth transmitting devices like mobile phones/players?

(1)Take mobile phones as an example. When the UTWS5 first starts pairing with a mobile phone, it needs to enter the pairing state when the indicator light of the charging case will flash white. In the mobile phone, enter the menus of Setting-> Bluetooth-> Click UTWS5 to complete the connection.

(2)There are 2 methods to make the UTWS5 enter pairing state

Method 1: Keep the UTWS5 inside the charging case. Long-press the multifunction button of the charging case for 3 seconds. The indicator light of the charging case flashing in red and white alternately means the UTWS5 is in pairing state.

Method 2: First connect the UTWS5 to Bluetooth device A. Turn off device A's Bluetooth or click Settings->Enter pairing state in the FiiO Music/Control App to connect the UTWS5 to Bluetooth device B.

I REALLY struggle with IEM's despite loving the sound / isolation they provide.I especially struggle with most wireless buds as they rely on a friction fit in your ear to stay secure and i have really narrow ear canals which just never hold buds.I found that Fiio FH5's really are amazing in that regard when coupled with latex ear tips but i wanted them wireless instead of wired. Mostly as i hate having to use wired headphones with some kind of dongle in the phone or something. So the Fiio UTWS5 arrived to change my favourite IEM's into superb sounding true wireless.Despite the size they are incredibly comfy - surprisingly so.They're not intrusive on your ears at all. They're paired using the normal manner and you have access to the "Fiio Control" application which gives a full EQ, settings, button configuration, volume levels, balances, firmware updates etcI updated the firmware before doing much with them which took a couple minutes. They charge in the case with your IEM's fitted (there's a reasonably big hole for the buds to sit in and with MMCX connectors allowing for rotation it means mine sit safe and snug in the case.Case is larger than most wireless earbuds cases simply because it has the large components and has to accomodate a normal set of IEM'sOverall for the same price as a set of wireless earbuds i'm getting top end sound.Winner for me

I couldn’t be happier with them, they check all the boxes:- Great sound quality (paired with my Campfire Andromeda)- Reliable connection with no drops- Comfortable, I forget I have them on- Easy to use, pair them once and as soon as you put them in your ears they’re always already connected- Buttons are customizable and work as expected al the timeWhat could be better?- Microphone for calls is ok, but not great- Connecting tu multiple devices is not supported, need to disconnect from one first to connect to another- App is a bit clunky, but it does work, with a decent EQ too- Case does not feel as premium, a bit too largeI tried these and the competitor true wireless from Shure, these beat the Shure no question

--- Long-Term Use Update ---I installed the new v1.71 firmware today (which includes LDAC support!) and wondered how long I've owned these. Since I came here to find the answer anyway (18 months), I'll take a moment to update on their reliability. After all this time, my UTWS5 are still working perfectly, without the frequently-reported charging issues and no problems with them connecting randomly when they're in their charging case. Connection quality during use remains stellar. In the event that the aforementioned issues are user-induced, I'll note that I make it a point to ALWAYS wipe the earhooks clean (particularly around the charging contacts) before returning them to their charging case; this may or may not have contributed to my ongoing positive experience.LDAC has been rock-solid during today's listening session in my home office, with no audio stutters or connection drops even when moving around the room with the player on my desk. One session is hardly adequate for a definitive assessment, but it's promising so far.So, after 18 months of ownership, the UTWS5 are, for me, a five-star product that I'm still happy to recommend.--- Original Review ---I own two Bluetooth MMCX cables: an eight-year-old Sony MUC-M1BT1 and a six-year-old Westone BT v1 cable. They both still work perfectly, but I looked to the FiiO UTWS5 to add true wireless convenience, longer battery life, and a newer Bluetooth standard/codecs to my MMCX IEMs.I tested the FiiO UTWS5 with Westone W40, Sony XBA-H3, and 7hz Timeless. With all of these, the UTWS5 easily outperformed both aforementioned Bluetooth cables in sound quality and longevity. I'll leave the lengthy and nuanced sound analyses to the audiophiles. For IEMs with traditionally-located attachment points such as the W40 and Timeless, the UTWS5 ear hooks fit perfectly and comfortably. However, please note that if you have odd-shaped IEMs such as the Sony XBA-H3, they fall beyond the adjustment range of the UTWS5 ear hooks, and it is not possible to hang them behind your ears. You can still use them, if you like the idea of the ear hooks floating next to your ears instead of hanging behind them (I don't recommend doing so in public).Despite having countless other in-ear, on-ear, over-ear, wired and wireless options around, the UTWS5/Timeless combination is quite enjoyable to listen to and I find myself using it often.Regarding hardware and software, I have not experienced any of the issues listed by some reviewers. The ear hooks charge like they're supposed to, and they do not randomly reconnect to my devices (so long as the battery in the charging case isn't depleted). Phone call quality is good. I use the FiiO Control app only to update firmware as updates are released. I do not use the ambient pass-thru mode, and I don't care about custom button mappings. For my needs, the FiiO UTWS5 are great and I highly recommend them.

These sounds much better than the Shure RMCE-BT2 I bough them to replace, and the range is better so I can roam my whole house connected to a PC in the office. BUT, the battery life is pretty poor. I don't think I get 3 hours when I'm listening at high volumes? I'll have to do more accurate time tests, but one of the main reasons I was replacing the Shure bluetooth receiver/cable was the battery life was only a fraction of what is was when I bought it less than two years ago. I'm not sure this FIIO unit is giving me as much battery life as the degraded Shure receiver does?!FIIO, your next version of these, the UTWS7 or whatever you call it should have TWICE the battery life of these if not more.Edit/update: After having these a good while I do dearly love them, but the battery life, while mostly, kinda livable is still the main downside. As a testament to how disappointing the battery life is, but also how much I love these, I want another pair so one set can charge while I use the other. But that will mean another pair of SE215, as I don't want to wear out the earphone to Fiio hooks connectors. As it is, I'm often swapping to SE215s on a cord or my over the ear B&W P7s when the UTWS5s need a charge. For the size of the UTWS5s, I feel they should last longer! I'd love 6+ hours of use at reasonably strong volumes, feels like I get 3 to 4.5 hours, varies.I did have some bumps early on, one earbud seemed to not be charging fully, bluetooth connection problems. But the bluetooth seems fine if I reduce the number of bluetooth devices with their bluetooth on, and an bluetooth adapter I was using on my PC seems to have been causing a lot of the mischief. That's mostly not an issue and I the the battery life on the earbuds is mostly pretty similar now.

For those like myself who find traditional TWS lacking (Sony, Bose, Apple) in the SQ, there little gems can turn you loved IEMs into an amazing portable solution. The DAC is great and maintains the SQ on my IER-Z1R, and 7HZ Timless. Battery life is good, and with the case it is long-haul trip solution. Case could be smaller, but that is a small gripe.Just be sure to order the correct version for you IEMs connection MMCX or 2-pin.
