About this item

  • TIGHT SEALING LID: 8 oz. opaque white canisters with matching style lid. Used for a wide range of professional, educational, and recreational activities. The micro-precision fitted lid allows pressure to build up inside (which is why these canisters are commonly used for homemade Alka Seltzer rockets). Once the lid is secured, no liquid will escape or leak out, even when the container is aggressively shook or held upside down.
  • HIGH FLEXURAL STRENGTH: Each canister is made from high impact polypropylene (PP), known for its elasticity and strength. Measures 2.1” high and 1.2” in diameter. Non-toxic, odorless, recyclable, and eco-friendly container. Safely keeps film, food, liquids, and other potentially perishable items safe without leaking or becoming compromised from outside elements.
  • HIGHLY REUSABLE: These incredibly multipurpose plastic canisters are designed for consistent reuse without performance breakdown. The material is UV protected and withstands a wide temperature range, so cold and heat do not impact its contents. Liquids stay at full volume and non-liquids remain dry, even in the most humid conditions.
  • SET OF 60: Bulk purchases offer greater value to photographers, educators, green thumbs, travelers, and anyone looking for simple but valuable storage containers. Canisters are a time-tested tool for storing first aid materials, sewing supplies, seedlings, aaa batteries, spices and seasonings and herbal supplements, loose change, and undeveloped film and/or film negatives.
  • SCIENCE, ART, DIY, OH MY: Whether you’re conducting a series of Dr. Frankenstein-esque experiments or simply organizing craft supplies, our holders can assist with the coordination of your creative process.

Product Description

By its basic definition...
A canister is a container that protects camera film from outside elements prior to its use. But the beauty of these dynamic miniature cylinders is that they can easily be used as a safe method of storing just about anything. No matter if it’s the dark room, the science lab, the garage, or just about any drawer in your home, a canister is likely to be found.

Getting down to brass tax:

Each canister is sized to hold 35mm film. The dimensions are 2.1” tall, 1.3” wide, and a 1.2” diameter. The opaque white exterior will not transmit light, while also withstanding a wide temperature range. This keeps the canister’s contents status quo during harsh winters and sweltering summers. All you need to do is properly attach the lid and this compact, lightweight beauty will go virtually anywhere without the threat of leaking or spilling. This means you can go ahead and throw them into pockets, purses, bags, drawers and other compartments of all sizes. Our canisters are most excellent for carry-on luggage when you are flying and in need of a workaround for travel size restrictions.

Houseables’ polypropylene (PP) thermoplastic film and accessory canisters are high-impact, strong, and non-toxic. They are safe for storing camera film, small amounts of foods and liquids, medicine, and only about a million other perishable and nonperishable items. Another popular use for these things is for making Alka Seltzer rockets, which is fun for children of all ages who dream of one day colonizing Mars.

Canisters are a time-tested tool for storing first aid materials, sewing supplies, seedlings, small batteries, loose change, spices and seasonings and herbal supplements, loose change, and -- image this -- undeveloped film and/or film negatives

Get thrifty. Get organized.
The dimensions are 2” tall, 1” wide, and a 1.22” diameter.

TIGHT SEALING LID: 8 oz. opaque white film canisters with matching style lid.

I've not tested these contianers for being able to contain pressurized product or liquids, but they are absoutely secure...too secure...for the purpose I bought them, of organized a few weeks' worth of daily vitamins and supplements. As such, I've reused them often with no hint of a lid gradually wearing and getting loose. If you need to keep something tightly secure and this is the right volume, then you'll be satisfied, but if you want to get into the containers with some measure of ease, prepare to be VERY disappointed, hence they lose one star. Even the old Fujifilm film canisters which these remind me of were secure, but far more easily opened, perhaps because the plastic wasn't quite as rigid. All these need to be a 5-star product is a protruding tab or lip that allows one to pop the top more easily. As I routinely recap them as each one is opened and emptied, to help keep them clean for reuse later, when the time comes to fill them all once again, the easiest way I've found to open them is using a grapefruit spoon, its toothed edge managing to grab the lid edge and pop it off.

I use these to store small amounts of mixed paint or solvents and they work great. I can store paint in these for years and they don’t dry out.I was getting worried about not being able to find these now that film is not as popular to use, so I decided to buy the canisters in bulk so I have a good supply.Something I did notice that I don’t like about them as I’ve used them for the past month is that the lids are difficult to get off. The diameter of the lid is exactly the same as the canister, and the lid fits tight, so you don’t have anything to grab onto to pop them off.

Some of the canisters didn't seal as tightly as I would have liked so the rockets sometimes fizzled. Otherwise product was fine.

First off, the ad is somewhat misleading in the wording that indicates these hold 8 ounces; not hardly. A normal fill up of water with room for the cap only yields 30ml or just a shade over 1 ounce. A letter to the vendor indicating same has been sent and this nebulous wording has been pointed out. Quite possibly, the reference to 8 ounce might be in regards to something in the plastics industry as an identifier but to the average consumer, it indicates a little container will hold 8 ounces. The lids on these are tight and it does take some effort to get them off but the advantage is that in a leak test of water, nothing spilled out. I like the design in that the lid diameter is just a tad larger than the diameter of the body proper and this prevents the lid from coming off if it catches something in your pocket or when placed in a storage box. Serrated edges on the lid aid in the removal. These are nice for storage of small parts, pills and all the tiny things we seem to lose.I bought the white containers as you can write on them with a Sharpie and you can do it also on the opaque units; black containers, not so much.60 of them for 12.69 and free shipping, a deal for me. To make it clear, that is 60 containers AND 60 lids, not 60 'pieces' as some vendors advertise.Photo enclosed, not much to show. They are film containers.
