We use this mat for our grill or fire pit, depending on the season. It's very easy to move and change locations as needed. It effectively prevents coals from burning our deck. In hindsight, we should have purchased this much earlier. Burn marks on our deck are certainly not appealing. Don't hesitate, buy it now.

I'm glad to have this - to protect the ground under/around the fire pit.It adds a lot of peace of mind.It does look much more wrinkly than the photos - it's soft fabric, not something hard and flat, so it doesn't come looking as smooth and flat as shown. But it seems to work fine so far!

I've been looking for a mat to use under both a fire pit and my smoker on my deck. Concerning the fire pit, I wanted it for heat/fire protection and I wanted it for protection from spills while using the smoker. This mat fit the bill - perfect size for both. The mat is very thick (approximately 1/4 inch uncompressed). The outer layers are heavy duty and will definitely repel any spills from the smoker's use. I tested the fire retardancy by using my propane touch that I use for searing meat (using a special torch head) and have to say that it was not damaged from the test. When I started the surface of the mat on both sides was 72 degrees fahrenheit and after 30 seconds of exposure of the torch, the top side was 467 degrees and the other side directly opposite where the torch was used was 101 degrees. We bought this to put under our Weber charcoal grill. It works to catch the ash from the middle area but small for this style of grill. It does the trick but not much on the side so make sure you grab a larger size. The mat does have a slight cushion to it which surprised me.

This is just what I was looking for!I didn't know these exsisted. We had been using a paver under the firepit for our deck, but this mat is a much better alternative. Thick but lightweight, easy to move around and fits perfect under our 30in pit.I'm not sure which side goes up, both sides seem likely, one being shinier than the other,though. I went with the shiney side up, and hemmed seam down.Havn't tested it out yet, but so far I am impressed with it overall.

The mat is a good size for a Weber 18" Kettle. Not too big that it could become be a tripping hazard as it is a little padded. The quality seems good and looks like it will do well against the elements. Like many reviewer mentioned, it isn't labelled to indicate which side is up but you would assume by the flatness and assumed direction of the material layers which side should face the floor. We purchased this to protect our deck from embers and it does that just fine. I would recommend it.

This mat saved our table. We have a little fire pit that can fit on our table. We ordered this, just in case. Well, in case happened. One piece of wood just started popping/exploding all over the place...no idea why. This saved the table from being burned. Just a heads up, it is puffy due to all of the layers. It looks flat in most pictures, but it's a little thick. We're glad to have it. Happy reviewer.
