This is a good pocket-sized fire-starting kit that includes a tin that contains 20 wax-coated cotton fiber rope pieces and instructions. The magnesium ferro rod and striker are in an orange plastic pocketknife two sides piece of plastic that stays attached by a string. The magnesium rod must have the protective black coating removed before getting sparks. Each piece of the wax-coated cotton fiber rope contains numerous fibers that can be unraveled and used to start a fire. With practice I was able to create sparks and catch the fiber on fire. It will take more practice to create a fire from the fast-burning wax-coated fibers. All in all, this is a great small fire-started kit, and I like it.

Small form factor yet still very functional. What you have here is two things - a tin full of fire starters and a ferrous rod with striker. It takes a few attempts to work out how to use it. Once you get the angle of the striker correct, you'll be making sparks with minimal effort. The bright orange color is good for visibility in case you drop it in a pile of leaves or in tall grass. It does come with a lanyard as well in case you want to tie it to your pack or somewhere else convenient. The fire starters are small pieces of rope you can unravel and catch on fire. Overall, a good value for anyone who enjoys excursions into the wilderness.

This is definitely the best flint and steel I've had. Great sparks, not a lot of wear and tear from it either. I haven't tried the actual tinder it comes with, but it absolutely seems like it's up for the job. I'm just going to put this in my camping gear and make sure I always have it. You just never know when you .ight need it!

This kit comes with a great little tin full of tinder - the tin is nice but I wish it was a little tighter fitting, worried it will come open in my bag, but a rubber band around the whole thing helps keep it in place. The tinder can be unwound and shredded so you can really start a lot of cooking/camp fires with this small kit. The tinder lights easily with a flame from a match or lighter - I'm still improving my ferro rod skills. The ferro rod has a compact design that stores and protects the rod from damage which is a plus. Overall a nice little kit.

Didn't think it was working at first, but after practicing I figured out the technique, and liked it enough to purchase one for a friend.

Nice firestarter set that comes with soaked rope for easy fire starting. This takes a little trial and error but once you know how to use the tool, it sparks up easily. Nice small storage and nesting to clip onto a bat. Only downside is the plastic feels a little "cheap" so will be interested to see how long it lasts. At this price, I wouldn't be mad replacing every few years with solid use.

I love this little kit. It’s priced perfectly and works exactly as advertised. If you’ve never used a ferro rod before, read the instructions.. they’re simple, and following them makes a big difference. The rod throws solid sparks, and the included tinder cord is wax-coated, which helps it catch and hold a flame. Just make sure you fray the ends of the twine like it says, that part really matters. It's lightweight, compact, and easy to use. Whether you're putting together a bugout bag, packing for a camping trip, or just tossing it in the glove box for emergencies, this is the kind of tool you’ll be glad you had if you ever need it.Fire is life when things go sideways, and this kit gives you a simple and reliable way to make it. Definitely recommend.Tested this on dry twigs and a small prep fire, ignited no problem. Haven’t tried it soaked yet, but the materials feel like they’ll handle damp conditions just fine.

I played around with this fire starter for the first time on a recent trip to my sportsman’s club, and I’m genuinely impressed. It’s super compact and lightweight—barely took up any space in my pack, which is always a bonus. Striking a spark was effortless, and it lit right up without any hassle. The included tinder caught quickly and burned long enough to get a solid fire going. It’s one of those tools that just does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Simple, reliable, and effective. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a fire starter.
