This is a nice device, however they need to take more care about quality assurance and testing - I recently got two of these in which a metal screw had come loose inside and was rattling around.I prefer to add my own memory (I use Crucial) and NVME M.2 SSD. Note that the screw on the M.2 socket is not the same size that is typically used to hold down M.2 cards. These are quite picky about memory - if you get the bare bones make sure you get memory with *exactly* the right specifications. I used Crucial DDR5 4800MHz CL40 Laptop Memory CT16G48C40S5. (The computer would not boot with 5600 memory.)FreeBsd 14.2 does not seem to understand the video hardware of the processor in the box - I ended up using a software frame buffer:mkdir -p /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.dcat - >> /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/driver-scfb.conf Section "Device"Identifier "Card0"Driver "scfb"EndSectionEOFchown root:wheel /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/driver-scfb.conf

I was looking for a mini PC with 10GbE support, and after a lot of research stumbled upon Moginsok. We currently have two of these computers: the i5 1240P 12C/16T version for use a desktop terminal into our hyperconverged cluster, and the Pentium Gold 8505 version for use as a mobile pfSense firewall.Mechanically, the computers are well made. The case is all metal and dissipates some heat. Inside are two sandwiched PCBs, one for the motherboard and one for the network card. The various ports look robust. For the CPU there is a small copper block with heat pipes that is cooled by a mini fan (see below). The fan is surprisingly quiet, but we found that the i5 version needs some tweaks in the BIOS, so it doesn't run at full blast all the time. There is a full-size NVMe port that works great, and there are two SODIMM DDR5 slots for Non-ECC memory up to 5600 MHz. The mainboard also has two SATA data ports and two jumpers for 5V/12V SATA power. There is not much free space inside the case for peripherals, and we haven't tried to hook up a 2.5" SSD or HDD; the intent seems to be to route the SATA connections to the outside of the case and use the drives externally. We have the i5 version run Debian 12 and drive three 4K displays simultaneously without problems: two Samsung ultra wide C49RG9x at 5120x1440@60 (via HDMI), and an older Acer KG281K at 3840x2160@30 (via DP) as an aside. We are also using two SFP+ optical links, which add a considerable amount of heat to the setup. The CPU temperature averages 25-28 Celsius in a ventilated room, and the internal network card runs at 55-60 Celsius. We added a WINSINN 40mm Blower Fan 5V (connected to one of the SATA power jumpers) to help cool the SFP+ modules a bit without adding too extra noise. We found that the embedded I226-V Intel network cards only seem to work reliably with Intel branded SFP+ modules. We tried a couple other modules, including 10Gtek and some off-brand modules, but they either wouldn't link up with the switch at all, or they didn't support all features, such as VLAN over LAGG. We ordered Intel E10GSFPSR 10G SFP+ SR SFP off Amazon, which worked out of the box without any fuss.So far we've had the following issues, and in the cases that we reported, we received prompt and excellent customer support:- The i5 version included the wrong power adapter (was under powered and kept the PC in a reboot loop during boot). Moginsok immediately refunded the cost for a more powerful adapter that was adequately dimensioned. For just five bucks more, we then decided to order a 150W 19.5V 7.7A ADP-150NB AC Adapter Laptop Charger off Amazon instead - probably overkill, but can't go wrong with having some reserves.- The i5 version included the wrong SATA power cables (the connectors to the jumpers were angled such that they could not fit over the SATA data ports. Moginsok acknowledged the issue, but we did not bother with a replacement as we have no plans to to use internal drives.- The fan in the i5 version died after about 7 months (it seems that the RPM sensor may have become defective, and the fan tried to spin up a few times before giving up on boot). Moginsok shipped a replacement from CA within a few days. However, the new fan seems to be the same model, and it is an ongoing concern, especially since someone else posted about this in a recent review as well. Moginsok informed us that the fan is a custom model, but we were able to find it on Alibaba: MIKO-FAN MD7508HS, 12V version. We're looking into getting a few spare ones just in case.- The Pentium Gold 8505 version was missing two screws on the front panel and had a small scratch. It might have been a returned product, but we didn't bother addressing the issue as everything else worked fine, and we didn't have time for a replacement.Despite the issues, we still believe that the Moginsok was a good purchase and are currently not aware of a better 10GbE / triple-monitor alternative at this form factor and price.Update 10/2024: Minisforum just released the MS-01. For a hundred dollars more, it features an i9 CPU, 8K video, dual USB4, triple M.2, and a PCIe 4.0 slot.

Out of the box, it was a little awkward to install an OS. I installed Ubuntu Server 24.04; the issues were because I bought the machine with storage, and they put a pfSense install image on the NVME drive (they didn't install on the NVME, they put the USB image on the NVME as if it was USB). I had to manually remove all partitions from the NVME before I could install the OS successfully. Not really a big deal.I set the machine up as a gateway/router. There were zero issues with drivers or hardware support. I used this 10G RJ45 SFP+ module: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0C1XMBCH8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I only have 1.5Gbps Internet service, but I easily get that on all downstream devices that have a 2.5Gbps link.I got the i5 1240P w/ 32G RAM / 512GB NVME flavor of this machine. The NVME isn't as fast as some, which is to be expected, but it's fast enough (1800MB/s read per "hdparm -t /dev/nvme0n1"). The only major problem I've seen with this machine so far is heat -- I'm running about 20 Docker containers (no VMs), and usually they just tick along just fine. However, if the CPU load gets above 2 for 10-15 minutes, everything locks up. The machine itself seems to keep working, but I lose network connectivity to it.I think the CPU on this machine is therefore a bit overkill, you can't really push it too hard without causing other issues. I've moved the high load process to another machine, but if this persists I might need to cut a hole in the side of the case and put in another fan, or bolt some heat sink fins to the side, or do something to help dissipate the heat.TLDR: I'm overall pleased with the machine, I wish there was better cooling for the SFP+ cages, and I might have to mod the case to augment the cooling capacity.

I purchased this 10gbe mini server to use it as ubuntu server 22.04 LTE. I got a superior support from the Moginsok team before the purchase, as well as, after it. They answered all my questions to be sure the hardware was right for my purpose. Once I received it, I requested them some questions to help me in the configuration and they were very fast, effective and polite, in answering me, including during the week end.The mini server is wonderful: fast, silent and perfect to work with 10Gb sfp+, as well as, 2.5Gb RJ45. The fan is silent and the temperature is low. Power consumption is incredibly low and I run the server during all day at only 20W.This is a perfect and very advanced hardware. I'll test it in the next weeks and then I plan to take 1-2 more. Thanks to the Moginsok team.

I had originally bought the previous model (10th Gen) and as some other reviews have mentioned I also experienced heat issues. However, the new 12th Gen model has been redesigned with additional cooling in mind and runs on average 20C - 25C cooler under load. I haven't had any issues at all with the 12th Gen running dual 10G SFP+ with the latest version of OPNSense.Contacted the seller about the heat issues with the previous 10th Gen model I had purchased and they were very responsive. Five-star support.

I was excited for this product having 2 SPF+ ports. It has 1 fan, that is designed to cool the CPU. There is a space, even screws for the other fan, but you'd need to build something since the fan would stick out on the bottom of the unit.I put in some ram and an nvme drive. I put OPNSense on it, and managed to get iperf3 to run for 10 seconds. Speeds looked good, but then one of the SPF+ ports failed. I assume due to the intense heat. When I pulled the SPF+ it was hot to the touch. It may be usable with a fan on the bottom, but in my opinion this product is unusable as it stands.

Good day, I recently purchased this and does work well, ( I have the I7 CPU, with 64GB of RAM) at first I installed Pfsense CE 2.7.0 and it had no issues seeing all the ports ( 2.5Gbps and the SFP+). I then moved on and virtualized Pfsense on ESXi 7 on the same hardware.ESXi 7 only had the drivers for the SFP+ ports, however I added the community edition Network drivers for the Intel I226 network card and it see all the ports and has been running very well since. My only concern is/was I thought it ran a little warm ( for my liking, however it wasn't an issue), I added a small USB Fan on the top, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y5WWBHH?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details. I believe it helps. If you are looking for a decent little server/firewall box, I think this is a good choice, I hope this review helps and if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can. Thank you
